Check out NORML.com they have some good basic information that will help you get started... From there you can narrow down the best states... Then maybe talk to an attorney in that state and find out what the penalties really are.

See I'm aware of that but some are vague and don't say anything. I picked Minnesota randomly here and it only says some weights but nothing about growing. Any ideas?

Yea you can talk to an attorney.. They have good knowledge and have very good acess to laws and past cases... You also can find convictions and appeals documents online and that's the best info out there... It's one thing to know the penalties of breaking the law... But attorneys, especially defense attorneys have the most experience with actual court information... For example an attorney is verly likely to know if many cases go to trial or not... This would be good because even if you are charged with something many cases in that area may not go to trial... Instead the prosecution will offer a plea bargain... They might try and get you to plead guilty to a lesser crime... Nobody knows that type of information more then a good defence attorney.. Most of the time just reading the sentence of a crime on paper is not a great indicator of what kind of penalty yo will actually do... It's just like the seatbelt law... Everybody knows the penalty for not wearing a seatbelt is a $50 ticket (in some states) but most of the time the officer will check you ID and let you off with a warning... Now without having actual experience with getting pulled over the average person may just think, get pulled over and get a ticket... Same thing goes for most other crimes... It is a good idea to know the laws and know the possible sentence but nobody has better knowledge of what actually happens then a defense attorney... Hope I've helped some.. I know you want actual link to pages with written laws and NORML.com is the best for that...

Off the top I would say Maine, Washington, and Colorado.

Ohio is decrimined up to 10 plants, Alaska is very lax about enforcement as well.

An example:
Possession of one ounce or less of marijuana in the privacy of the home is legal.
Possession of less than 25 plants is protected under the Alaska Constitution’s right to privacy (See Ravin v. Alaska). Possession of 25 or more marijuana plants is “Misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree” and is punishable by a fine of up to $50,000 or five years in prison.

In Ohio, cultivation of up to 100g is decriminalized to the point where it is a minor misdemeanor with no permanent record and a fine
that's according to http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4557

Not sure where you got the '10 plants' thing, but it sounds interesting.......

I see NORML is still citing the Alaska case with 25 plants, but didn't some politician overturn it a couple years back? or maybe he just tried to overturn it....

Why are things so relaxed in Ohio? To be honest I don't know much about the culture there.

Ironically I think all these laws against cultivation are ridiculous. You can decrim X amount but you have to go get it from someone which is illegal, and they have to get it from someone who grows, which is illegal. Totally idiotic. I dunno after seeing people suffer from cancer or hell even with regular people I know who use it for medicinal reasons it's still so stupid to face prison time for only having a few plants. Like seriously spend years in prison for a few plants wtf?

I was also wondering where everyone gets the stay under 100 plaants and the feds cant touch you thing?.....on the website for normal it says distribution or cultivation up to 50 kilos which i would think would put you in the range of 500 to 1000 plants assuming you are doing sog.....just always been curious

Well I mean a lot of states if you have over 100Grams your f'ed. A lot of plants just one produce more than that so the under 100 plants I'm pretty sure you're f'ed if you even have a small amount. However having a small amount is less likely you'll be caught.

I'd be happy as clam if I could have under 20.

No im not saying that i want that, i do just fine with my 40 plants, but i always hear people talking about if you have over 100 plants then the feds can come get you.....the thing is that i dont see that etched in stone anywhere.....if anyone has any more info on the fed law than norml does please post a link.....this has always bugged me ever since i saw the norml description of the fed laws.... the state i live in the state law basically mirrors the fed law except its distribution or cultivation of up to 50 lbs (the max penalty is 2 years and its not even a felony) instead of 50 kilos i think by far our state has the most lienient laws as far as more than personal use goes where if you have up to 50 lbs you cannot do more than 2 years, in other states you can do upto 20 years for like 20 lbs. in montana you can do life jus for selling a pound now thats crazy

The whole west coast has the good herb legalized for medicinal purposes. Washington,Oregon and California+really lax weed laws

cops have much better things to do like patrol all the highways Ohio is a pretty rough state when it comes to people. city and towns are very spread out don't ever speed in Ohio they love to give out traffic tickets

I was looking at OR but then I looked up their laws and they suck! They have good med ones but general growing and such blows. Hell even face jail time for selling bongs come on! http://www.norml.com/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4559

I can't say WA are that much better from what I can see.

The laws might say one thing. But police don`t really care about weed. Weather medical or recreational! They are out to bust anyone who has anything better than weed. Plenty of smoke shops sell bongs, pipes, screens and vaporizers with no hassle from law enforcement. When I bought my newest bong there was a Police Officer in there buying cigarettes,I still bought my glass and kept it pushing. No problems. I have been pulled over numerous times with weed smoke evident in the car, they never even asked about it. With so many meth labs and extacy pills floating around the police are not worried about weed. I have a friend who is not medical and he grows 3 plants per year in the backyard of his rented house. Never any issues. He is near Seattle. I was at his house last week and his shit is huge, towering over the fence! Just my :2cents:
