Here is Phillthy's mix - it doesn't get any easier:

1/2 bale Pro Mix Bx
1 bag FFOF
1/2 bag EWC
5 gal chunky perlite

1 cup blood meal
1 cup bone meal
1 cup kelp meal
1 cup dolomite lime

Just add water. Same soil mix from seedling to chop.

See, I had major problems with bugs and many have said that FF's quality control has gone down the shitter recently and that could very well be the source of my bug problem. I DO have both Gnatrol and Merit 75 just in case, but I am no longer going to use Ocean Forest. I'd rather go straight Coco before I go back to that.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, such a strong mix...wouldn't that burn seedlings? Why add all the additional stuff as FFOF has a lot of that in there anyway?

So some say add EWC, some say don't, some say use the lime, some don't. This is my predicament - I don't want to 'guess' and screw up an entire grow op and 5 packs of seeds just cause I didn't use the right mix.

How about this instead, let me give you all an idea of how I will complete this grow and critique my methods, rather than me asking for everyone's 'preferred' method as that will go on until the end of time:

Stage 1:

I drop the seeds into cups of distilled water and soak for 24-48 hours. Once they drop to the bottom, I usually begin to see the seed crack and the root tip appear. At this point I have the grow room set to ~74-76 deg, 'beer cups' with straight pro-mix pre-wet and waiting. I plant the seeds about a half inch into the medium. I put the lights on an 18/6 cycle, as I haven't received clarification on whether or not it's okay to leave in darkness until they pop the surface. During this time I am misting the tent, keeping the top layer moist. After 1-2 weeks from planting, they have established themselves and I at that point am able to 'weed out' the runts, the non-germinated ones, etc. From there (about a week into growth) begin feeding a Veg formula (such as GH FloraNova) but at a light light dose. After about another few days or a week or so, transplant into the 1.5/2gal pots.

Stage 2:

The 1.5/2gal pots I use are for me to sex the beans. Once I sex, the females go into 5 gals, males chopped. Anyway, at this point this will be a mix of Pro-Mix, EWC and additional perlite. After the 'transplant shock' wears off and the plants begin growing steadily, i can then slowly begin feeding again. This process (in my exp) takes usually about 2-4 weeks before I can sex.

Stage 3:

Make final transplantation into 5 gal's, same mix Pro-Mix, EWC, Perlite. Maybe a bit less EWC since N isn't needed as much during flowering. Switch to 12/12. After shock, begin feeding flowering formula.

Does anyone see an issue with this method?

For every 5 gal of promix, how much EWC should be added (during Veg)? My tap water has a ph of around 7. I add 1 or 2 drops of 'ph down' to drop the ph a bit - could my tap water be what is destroying the plants?

best bet just grab some bag seed and try your first go and play around a little bit. there will be bumps in the road there always is. have fun dont stress it too bad. just remeber to little is better that to much. and you can love them to death.

Oh, I've been growing for awhile. I grew successfully in Canna Coco mixed with some FFOF. After switching to Pro-Mix/FFOF was when I began having issues.

Gonna try a straight pro-mix/EWC/perlite run, with no lime. lime may have been my downfall f*cking with the pH and what not, could be my tap water, could've been fluxuations in temperature, who knows what really 'caused' my failed runs - i just want to be sure my medium isn't the source of the issue. Temperatures should be now stable, I have a humidifier and all should be gravy.

Going to start white widow, blue satellite 2.2, kaya gold, medusa, blue mystic. thanks for your input tho

i put lime in mine because ive done landscapeing for 6 years and we use lime to controle the ph in soil to get grass to thrive. when peat moss breaks down the ph rises and the lime helps controle the ph and it adds calcium, magnesium to the soil.

i tried coco not to long ago and i kept getting a white mold or mildew on top of the coco. i bleached everything twice bought new coco, my humidity was between 45-55%. tried again and same thing. i researched it and other people said they had it and it never affected the plants but i threw everthing away. i recently moved to a new house and decided to try agian so i got some more coco, about to do some test runs on coco vs soil and FF nutes vs nectar of the gods in both mediums 16 plants in all 3 different strains 2 gallon smart pots.

well see, my original grow consisted of Canna Coco and FFOF.

50/50 mix after getting seeds started. grew some wonderful bud under same conditions as they are now.

recently, though, my seedlings seem to have twisted leaves, yellowing, runts, etc. not sure if thats a temperature/humidity issue, pH issue or what...maybe i was adding too much lime or EWC.

starting out soon, probably this weekend.

going to start 36 seeds in the 2 x 1000w tent, and 12 in the 400w tent.

20 white widow under 1 x 1000w (hoping for 6 solid females)
15 white widow + 5 BS 2.2 under 1 x 1000w

then 12 freebie nirvana under the 400watter - kaya gold, blue mystic or medusa

hoping for 12 females in 5 gal's under 2000w, hoping for 2-3lbs final pull

hoping for 6-8oz under the 400w

sounds good, good luck, i had the same prob with seedlings with my coco trial, i am gonna try it agian just not the whole grow. ive got a 4x8 with 2k i am putting 9 in each 4x4 space for a 30 day harvest. about to try 16 in smaller pots see what yeilds more.
