You definitely need to try Pliny the Elder, Younger and Blind Pig.. The Lagunitas can be left in the store as far as I'm concerned..

i jest sir.

last time i was in norcal i didn't make it very far from russian river pretty much the whole damn time i was there.

still haven't tasted the younger though. i refuse to drag myself to wait in a 3 hour queue to pay $12 for a half pint of anything on tap. much as i admire the art and craft of good brewing, beer and snobbery are perfectly incompatible IMHO.

long as we're discussing norcal...

i don't always drink dark beer,
but when i do,
i prefer

just recently had a few bottles of pliny and blind pig mailed to me from a pal in cali. pretty damn good beers.

been on a homebrew kick lately trying to clear out some bottle space, but when im not drinking that, ive been going for a lot of tripels and strong goldens lately.

have a bunch of RR sours aging in the cellar now among other things. love allagash and ommegang. rochefort and achel are pretty high on the list as well. love goudon carolous and corsendonk.

Chimay is really good. I think its underrated, this is coming from someone who works with beer and sampled 300+ beers from all over the world.

Not my favorite though...

Hello all,

Well, I have been drinking beer since I was 13. Yes, this is true.

Over the years I have drank many differnet styles of beer from many different places.

I have indulged in the name brands and the obscure micro-brews from light pilsners to heavy IPA's to the wheats.

When it is all said and done, I come back time and again to.....wait for it.....

Budweiser.

Yup, I just love the flavor and the texture.

Anyway, I can always get it and it tastes good.

Get yourself a case of Orval and put it somewhere dark and cool.. Have one once or twice a year.. that beer really doesn't show it's best character until it's 3 or 4 years old. Orval is partially fermented with a yeast called Brettanemyces.. it promotes a 'wild' flavor as the beer matures.. it's fun to compare old bottles to new ones.. Orval is one of the true works of art in the brewing world.

I prefer my home brew, usually dark and strong but every now and then I go for light blonde kinda like my women... Although if i was smoking a nice fat monte cristo edmundo I'd want a scotch that's old enough to order its own scotch.
