UPS and digital ballasts

Hi all

Im in the process of building a new grow room after growing in tents for the last bunch of years. My question is this- has anyone used a UPS with their digital ballasts to make sure they get clean power to prevent any possibillity of failure? I'm going to running a 400 and 600 watt gallaxy ballast and they will be hooked up to a 1350 watt cyberpower ups. I figure that the ups will clean up the power spikes and brownouts and help preserve the ballasts. I was just wondering if anyone has done it.....also do ya think i can get 8 2 gal pots under the 600??? thats the plan anyway...thanks in advance

I would just make sure that there is no way you will overdrive that UPS.

I may be incorrect but I believe that they are mainly used for computers and while it says its 1350 watts it may not be able to sustain it constantly

I think a surge protector would be a better fit, the UPS wouldn't have near enough runtime to do anything meaningful, and the surge protector (not just a power strip) would do the same job. Good ones like APC and Tripp-lite have $500,000 equipment warranties on connected equipment, just make sure you fill out their warranty cards ASAP!

That's probably not really the best use of a UPS. It wouldn't keep your lighting running for very long. They are best used for essential services such as running water or air pumps to simply keep the plants alive.
If you want to be able to get through a sustained power outage while keeping the grow unaffected, it's time to scour the classifieds for a decent generator. This opens a whole new can of security worms, however.
Also I think you're on the edge with plant #s and sizes with that amount of lighting. Why not knock it up to a 1k setup?
Take care

a UPS would be a great idea for any D/E Ballast..
As when you get a brown out or a momentary outage the ballast will not strain for power nor shorten the life of the ballast any longer..
