Unused Dryer Plug? Powerbox controller?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.. Im basically retarded when it comes to electrical stuff.

Anyway I have an extra dryer plug right next to my grow room. my buddy was saying there was a way to use to power the room?

looked around a bit and saw these powerbox controller dealies? anybody ever used one?

Well we need more information to answer your question. What do you plan to power with it? Does it need to be 120v circuit? Your dryer plug is more than likely a 240v 30a circuit with 2 hots 1 neutral and a ground.

And yes that will work it just splits the hot and forms 2 120v circuits. If you havent purchased your lights yet I would suggest running 240v. You can pull twice as many watts at the same amperage. For example 1k ballast 9-10amps @120v same ballast on 240v 4-5 amps

I have that same unit and it works great. I have another 50 amp unit for my 240 plugs but I needed some extra 120's for all kinds of misc etc. Running lamps would certainly be better to buy a similar unit that has 240 plugs. I like that unit because you can run the first four on the timer and have the other two running 24/7 or have all six running on the timer.
