Hey all,
After doing some research on some of the old Chem-related strains, I was curious if people have finally come to a consensus on the famous Underdog and Sour Diesel that came out of Weasel's breeding program way back in the mid-1990's.
Pretty much everywhere I look, I see that the Underdog/Original Headband's lineage is stated as Chemdog 91 x (Mass Super Skunk x '93 Sensi Seeds Northern Lights). However, Weasel's recount of his breeding on the Adam Dunn Show clearly states that the Headband was simply Chemdog 91 x '93 Sensi Seeds Northern Lights male. Is there a definitive answer to this one out there? Did Weasel remember the cross incorrectly or did his crew?
SIDE NOTE: I remember hearing that many people have lost the Headband due to the cut finally dudding out. Is this true or has it been found and circulated once again?
Similarly, the Sour Diesel still appears to be shrouded in mystery. Most places say that it is a cross of (Chemdog 91 x Mass Super Skunk/NL) x DNL, however, Weasel once again says that the Sour was simply a cross of a brother to the Underdog x Mass Super Skunk, which would honestly make more sense in my opinion...
One of the issues is the timeframe. I'm not sure Weasel could have completed all those crosses in the relatively short amount of time between receiving the Sensi Seed's stock in Amsterdam and the first appearance of Sour Diesel on the NYC scene. This is why I'm inclined to believe that it was the much simpler answer of Underdog x MSS.
There is also the problem of conflicting reports from the "Albany Crew", who claim (AFAIK) that the Sour Diesel was the result of an accidental pollination in one of their gardens. On the other hand, Weasel says that it was a deliberate breeding project after receiving the Mass Super Skunk from a friend and knowing that he wanted to cross it into the Chem family. After getting some few hundred seeds out of the pollination, Weasel claims he sold pounds of the seeded bud to the guys in the Albany Crew and was given the Sour cut in return sometime later.
Sorry if this has been solved already, but after hours of research I wasn't able to come up with a concrete answer to these questions (along with the myriad of other potential lineages/stories people have put forth). I'm currently writing up a little article on the Chem/Sour/OG origin stories and really want it to be as accurate as possible so that others who are interested don't get confused/mislead.
Any information available would be greatly appreciated!
