NSW Drug Summit started in November apparently I stumbled on this yesterday any way I don't expect much from it apart from this benefiting the Cannabis industry here that is in trouble.

Thought to give you a heads-up, if this does bring about real law reforms, this will benefit all states in the long term.

If I find any related or news on this, I will post it up.

From the information I found today, this Drug Summit will end as the state parliament ends for Christmas and then returns in February.

If any changes are to happen, they won't until well into 2025 once parliament returns.

A summit only offers up recommendations to the government and like most ignorant governments they don't/won't adopt any of them.

The last one was held in 1999 from that came safe injection rooms, and we almost saw legal cannabis but the Revren Fred stopped and Labor did not have the numbers.

We can't get a worse outcome than we already have right now, can we, so any steps towards real law reform is going to be a positive.

I agree but I'm far more cynical than you by the looks of it mate. 🤣

Personally after hearing that over 1200 companies paid no tax whatsoever last year I would consider tax law reform far more important than drug law reform!

The ACT cannabis reform bill is shit I expect at worse what Canada has, but my instincts tell me this will be more of a benefit to the canna industry than to us.

This is only for NSW, but if it happens then the others will follow soon after,

Mins has already said he won't decriminalise it or change the law in any way for cannabis.
He's more interested in harm minimisation and rehabilitation.

im with you porky ,
our governments are way to conservative even to consider any legalization of cannabis i think,

instead we get this "medical cannabis"
, but the stuff is no medicine ,
you cant believe what they call it , nor the stickers they add to it ,
anyone supporting it are supporting the folks who want anyone else doing the same thing put in jail ....
the only benefit being some folks can legally possess a small amount of cannabis...

these guys are not "for the people" , they look after themselves and their rich mates ...

Yeah mate it's a business like anything else. They will be lobbying the government to protect their investment.

Like I said earlier I'd much rather see tax reform to make these billion dollar tax dodging entities pay some fucking tax.
Much rather nurses, paramedics, teachers and others paid fairly than being able to buy over dried mass produced cannabis.

Mins went into the Election saying he was for legalisation, then he backflipped a few months after he won now he has that to contend with as people don't like bull shit.

He also has a lot of ministers in his Government that are 100% for it, and then you have the Ice inquiry findings that recommended cannabis be legalised.

You also have a Medical cannabis bill from NSW Labor sitting in the upper house that would completely Legalise the growing the making of hash and hash oil with no plant numbers and a lot more since 2017 for patents.

If the Drug Summit is legit, we will see a swag of changed being recommended, and they will include Cannabis legalisation the end of sniffer dogs and strip searching at music festivals /pubs/clubs and railway stations.

The push for no reforms with come from the police and the Cannabis industry.

After Premier Chris Minns rejected the movement for decriminalising cannabis for personal use in July of 2024, there have been continuing parliamentary debates surrounding the topic.

Due to the immense cost, most of which comes from taxpayer money, NSW government MPs are petitioning and supporting a major legislative change within cannabis-related laws within the state that could lead to the legalisation of cannabis.

I came across this today, interesting read.

As sure as gay marriage, private cannabis use will not be a crime

I haven't read this yet, but this is the report from the parliamentary committee examining the regulation of cannabis in NSW.
