Under 400 watt HPS

Hello Everyone, I just have a few questions, I am a new to growing this year is my first year. I have outdoor plants just about ready to harvest but my question is about indoor. I just got a 400 watt hps. I have 12 clones under it and it is about 1 1/2 foot above them. Is that too many? They are all in 1 gallon pot now, and the spread is about 2 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet square. All right next to each other. They have already been under a flourecent for awile and are alredy kinda big- about a foot and a half and bushy. I dont have any pics right now but I will try to get some up here today if I get time. Ok, Do I start giving them fert now, I use pro blend pro grow, to veg and pro bloom to flower. So is it good everyother day? And plain water in between? Oh yeah, I've been having problems posting pics, It won't let me, err, I think it is due to the size, like KB how big is the biggest Kb they can be? And My bud told me 24/7 for first 21days and then go to 12/12 for the next 2 month. Is that about right?

Thats alot of questions.

1. 12 plants under one 400 hps is alot for that light but i have seen people manage it before. I would do 6-8 max myself but 12 aint the end of the world

2. as ffar as ferts? if they are over a foot tall go for it! After they get around 6 inches i start feeding

3. as far as feeding every other day? I feed 3 times then give plain water. But every one does things different. But every 3 days i give them food then after 3 feedings ( 12 days or so) i give them plain water

4. With lighting, in Veg 24/7 is fine. 21 days? thats sounds good but just get them to a height and look you want then flip to 12/12. And they are done when they are done

There used to be a calculator on wither this site or OG that did that for you, but i forgot which one. I blame it on the pot. A 400 hps doenst burn up that much. Maybe $20 a month. But you have to lok at your power bbill to see cost per KW used then figure out the amount of Kw you will burn by having light on then multiply that # of hours by the amount it costs per KW. It depends on area you live.

a 400 watt HPS uses about the same amount of electricity a modern desk pc uses.

I have and out door going right now also, which should be almost done, but I don't know for sure, since I have never harvested. But All the plants are budded out pretty good. My friend told me that once the top bud starts to turn brown on the hairs then it's done. But I don't know. The buds on the lower branches still have the white hairs, not all but alot. So what do u think guys? They sure do smell lish and are real sticky.

You can harvest the plant partially like first harvest the top cola, let dry
then 1-2 weeks later harvest the lower buds which will receive intense sunlight during those 2 weeks and smoke some of the top cola while trimming those lower buds

That's exactually how I reasoned with my wife to justify changing my flowering set up to 400w HPS. To adjust things, the entire house is lit up from the old CFL's I used - the bill is actually lower now.

personally i would run the 400w hps 18/6 instead of 24/0 for 3 wks you'll have a better rootmass the clones get some shut down time for photosynthsis very important. i ran 10 plants in cab under 400w hps got 300gram dry weight when done, i think the 10 was little much for the 400w hps

right on congrats on 1st harvest in the back of my gallery you'll find a diagram of how and when to harvest by the trichrome maturity harvest by the trichromes {ie} the thc crystals is the best way not by what color the hairs are although that is old school way but this is new age days

I will take some pics tomorrow, and show, I have a couple blueberry, a couple lifesavers, and about 7 heavens, and 1 purple creme. Delicious smelling I tell u. Thanx again.

trichromes are the crystals formed on the leaves and buds not the hairs from the flowers although ive had crystals there also
i take a snipit of leaf very end snip tip and inspect the tric maturity with this http://www.radioshack.com/search/in...ated microscope&origkw=illuminated microscope
i take a sipit of leaf from bud itself covered in trics from top mid bottom of bud in question and inspect on a white paper back ground.

Hello, well my picture are having trouble loading. Don't know why, it just keeps trying to load them and then says page cannot be found. I even took smallest size pictures,1.7. Does anyone know or could tell me why I am having trouble?????? Thanx,

Oh yeah I have aquired new lights since the other day, 1 600 watt hps and 1 400 watt metal halide, I am now running the 600 watter over my ladies and turned off the 400 watt hps. Is that good enough now? I know the plants are lovin it.

Thanx for ur help. I really want to get this picture thing figured out. Does it have anything to do with the empty box and URL of page to parse image from?? Whats that? What do I put there?

a buddy of mine actually has 12 plants flowering under 1 400 watt hps rite now. it seems to be enuff lite but they all sorta lean in towards the center of the room like the lite coverage isnt good enuff.

Maybe, but the lites say the coverage on a 400 is 4X4 area. so I don't know. But I put a 600 over mine yesturday. Only on day 6 in veg right now under big light. They were under floros for a while, but now 600 hps. They are looking good.
