Sorry but i forgot to ask, do you think we should place tape around the spot? Against humidity and as a support??????

Definately cover that area with something, if bugs start eating away, or enough moisture gets in there, it's just going to have to be harvested early. I suggest some tape..

I think i remember hearing most tape+ plant = bad, maybe you could clean it with some hydrogenporoxide and then wrap it in some clean gauze and then wrap it with some plastic wrap to protect from moisture.

Interestingly, one treatment I have used on cherry trees with cankers is cauterization. This is taking a hot blow torch and charring the stem/trunk till the outside burns and crackles. Maybe only 20 seconds contact. This kills the bacterial canker but does not damage the tree. Lol. I don't suggest doing this with your plant.

I do suggest rubbing the entire area on the stem with maybe hydrogen peroxide 50/50 with water. I don't think the hydrogen peroxide would hurt the plant because it is only really dead/woody tissue that is being contacted. This should at least kill any fungus on the surface. Then, attempt to wrap the area if you like. I have in the past sprayed a canker with fungicide like daconil 2787 (chlorothalonil) and let it go like that without wrap. The plant went through vegetative growth and flowered fine. Since your so close to the end anyway with the plant, I don't think much of this matters.

It is probably inevitable that disease or insects would "catch up" with your plant in a growing season anyway. Harsh being a plant.

Hey sproutco,
I'll rub it in with some alcohol, before she gets wrapped up. You say "i'me close to the end", how long would ya reckon she still has?

I changed my mind and said hydrogen peroxide instead of alcohol. I think you should still be able to get a harvest even though the plant is on "one leg".
