Sure if you go to the middle east you will find actual things from the bible. I have done this once when in Africa, travelling as far north as Alexandria. Many sites standing from pre-Christ era, and some of them superbly preserved. So this far I will agree with what you are saying, that indeed many things in the bible are real, and proof is available.
What I can also tell you is that to get that close to Biblical sites also reinforces whatever level you choose to believe before seeing the proof. Sure if you are a deep believer then now you are really convinced with actual proof of everything you have read. But if you don't believe the bible beyond the everyday ordinary truths contained, then you become even more skeptical. They want to sell you a map of where Jesus was born in every town for 30 miles. Special tours of extra holy sites, with tales of saints giving blessings, a piece of the robe from the actual saint... the spot where the angel spoke to Michael... the holy lands are awash with tourism surrounding the Bible, and they certainly ad creed to the fact that much in the bible is highly exaggerated or totally falsified to inspire belief.
sure, I can agree with that.
this is why I quoted the other guy's part of the post specifically dealing with history in the old testament; now, since we can verify archeologically speaking that many events from such narrative actually happened, it should not mean that all info contained is literally truth.
however, we can indeed go to such book and help ourselves with relevant historical information that has been already proven to be accurate, which was my point basically, as opposed the other guy's point.
peace!
