Hi festivus. So far our containers have been averaging 12 oz. each, both in the cedars and in the swamp. The lowest has been 10 oz., the largest was almost a full lb. I expect the SCT to come in around 12 oz. which would mean my guess for the big plants (one on the left, one on the right) to be 3-4 oz. each.
festivus - that one plant ended up being 119 grams. The SCT is a heavy yielder! More on that in the next post...
w2008 - Normally the chicken wire is large enough to not constrict the main stem but we had a few real large plants this year that came close. Again, more on that in the next post...
Yesterday the last plants were harvested. The last four Sugar Cane Trains at the cedar site were taken in the afternoon. It's been wet, cool and rainy but they did fine:
Given that the one harvested last week was over a QP, I'm pretty sure this pail will meet our average of 12 oz. I also took down the branch of early Baby's Breath (the rest was harvested a month ago) which had been left to ripen the seeds pollinated by the Sugar Cane Train. It's so over-ripe and, though we want it for seed, it will make interesting smoke for a few bowls:
Later, just before dark, I harvested the last plant from the swamp. This is an unknown clone which had a tote all to itself after the other clone in it died. It looks like a huge yielder - maybe a half pounder or better. This one did get a bit constricted by the chicken wire.
Sorry the pics aren't better. It was a gloomy, wet day. Not great for photography but a fine day for the final harvest. The other head has been keeping up with the manicuring (lots of work). It looks like 8+ lbs total once all this is counted. Wow, what a year, we're very happy and a little weary...
twoheads, what a fine grow you have displayed.. a classic guerilla growing garden, and the buds are as sugary as any other outdoor grow ive seen.. seriously hats off to you bro, guerilla growing aint no joke. just curious whats your location.. east coast? that sugar cane train looks very nice, and you say its a heavy yielder... im interested.. and what seed bank are your bubbas from? great show twoheads!
Thanks warthog. We're in Ontario. The Sugar Cane Train is from House of Love seeds. It's Chemdog x [Trainwreck x Hawaiian]. The Bubba Kush came from a medical grower friend who was over his plant limit and I'm not sure of his source for the clones. Regardless, we were happy to give them a home mid-summer!
What a fabulous job you guys did! In one of the swamp pics, the pail looks like it's sitting in standing water... I'm amazed the plant didn't have the classic over-watered look!
Evidently the swamp water isn't brackish or too acidic. Did these totes always sit in standing water? The plants look like they dug it though!
Hi festivus - As long as the totes are sitting in a few inches of water they are happy as clams. We had a great flood here in 2004 that wiped us out in the swamp (and the cedar site too - we learned to drill holes in every container!) and there have been wet years when the plants don't do much till the water recedes. It's not brackish but it is acidic which is why we went in with new ProMix BX this year. It's already limed. We'll also lime the totes when we shut down the site in November.
As I open jars I may get some more bud porn shots worth sharing but we tend to strip the huge tops down to more manageable sized buds while manicuring. The other head calls it "de-boning". Dried bud shots are nice but, for me, nothing compares to a frosty early-mid September bud shot!
Even though I am semi-retired from active swamp growing, it is always good to see the TwoHeads team flying the swamp grow flag, and cultivating those mouthwatering buds.
Pulling up a chair to see the full run of this crop, fellas.
I nominated 2 Heads' pic of his beautiful pink pistil Baby's Breath for October Photo of the Month. I would urge any 2H fans to check the pic, and 2nd the nomination, if so inclined.
There are some killer pics this month, but I think the Baby's Breath is the best so far, hands down.
Hey ICM'ers, these beautiful pics are Baby's Breath, from 2heads' 2011 outdoor season. As of today, his pic is 2nd in the October Photo of the Month contest. If you find his pic as worthy as I do, please take a minute and give it your vote in the poll before it's closed. Kindest Regards, festivus
