Trouble taking cuttings

One more shot at it. All tips from pruning bottom branches. Rooting gel, weak flowering ferts.

Mid 70s, >95% humidity, 2 x 40W 6500K florescents. Dome comes off 1x/day first 5 days.

Also some "GMT style" cloning (except w/rooting gel). Going to keep these under 12/12, see what happens.

I'd be inclined to agree with MFT....poorly fed mothers and light, and heat light creates...

Last time, I followed the instructions from the Indoor Gardener's Bible and leached the soil and misted the leaves for four days before taking the cuttings - to leach out N, which is described as a positive.

Looks great...all foggy. You dont really need to crack the top for a week. :)

Dome should be left on till rooted.....aired daily, dome misted for moisture...
There is a lot of vegetation in there - won't the dome run out of CO2 before 5 days are up?

I leave a a couple holes the diameter of a pencil so the clones get a tiny bit of air. Its still 99% covered. I root in a fishtank covered with clear plastic. I take a cig (yeah I know there bad for you) and burn one or two holes in the top plastic.

edit: just took a look at gallery, and, evertything on earlier pages in flower look fine.........Hmm.........so, therefore.....something between the cut and the pics......

The plants I flushed and sprayed before taking cuttings last time are an unpictured revegged blueberry and an unpictured revegged bag seed sativa. The sativa's leaves went a lighter green, but other than that, both were vigorously growing.

I believe the main problem has been too much light and lowering the humidity too soon - to 80s on 3rd and fourth day and the cover off after that - down to 40%. Perhaps I kept temps too high as well.

I feel confident about this attempt! Thanks for the help everyone.

Been being patient for 48 hours! How long must I wait?

Still at >95% humidity in the mid 70s.

Should I spray with Serenade, juice up the rockwool some, add some H2O2? Or are the fighting babies going to do just fine?

Look, you're making this TOO complicated!

MJ clones extremely easily, once basic conditions are met.

You're mistake is obvious. You cracked the humidity dome. Leave the lid on until the clones root. If you take the lid off occassionally to spritz it with water, that's more than enough venting. If the moisture hangs in drops on the humidity dome, then the temp is okay for rooting. It doesn't need to be "fogged."

I don't let puddles of water accumulate in the floor, because if you use rockwool, they will absorb the water. And once've you soaked it, and wrung it out the first time and placed your cutting in it, that is enough water for the cutting. Too much water, (for example, if you aren't wringing the cubes out enough) will slow down the rooting.

Also, don't put the dome close to lights. I keep mine in minimal indirect light. The main energy at this point is spent in putting out roots, not in photosynthesis.

I doubt you need the heating pad, that may cause your cubes too dry out to quickly. If it is staying constantly foggy, that's warmer than it needs to be.

Good luck. You're almost there. Once you get the knack of it, it's easy to have pretty much 99-100% success rooting your cuttings.

my last cloning session i decided to leave the dome on with out touching after three days i took a look and there was mold on the stem at top of rockwool and also inside the rockwool. It was a blue grey mold like what grows on bread. I think clones need fresh air even for a moment, lift the dome for a few minutes and extend it the older they get.

Day 6 or 7. Been 90%+ RH and in the mid 70's the whole time.

Wondering about bloated stems - good or bad? Normal:

Bloated:

Checked for roots a few days ago. None yet to see.

I use dip-n-grow. I also use a heating mat with a towel doubled over between the tray and the mat. But I usually take the heating pad away after a week. Depends on my ambient air temps. I use a dome until the plants show signs of roots. Give the dome a breath or two, from your lungs, before replacing it. This helps with CO2 and some humidity! I use a 1/4 teaspoon of all nutes in my solution for watering. I keep my clones under 2 40 watt cool white flours. I have had 100% success rate for any clone ever taken. Sometimes roots take as long as two weeks to appear. Be patient!

Never pick up your clones by the stem. Always lightly squeze the cube to pick it up. I figure they are rooted when you see roots come out the bottom of the cube.

When taking the clone off the mother plant, I use a fresh razor blade every time. Cut at a 45 degree angle then dip in the dip-n-grow for 8-10 seconds.

When watering, I dip the cubes up to two times per day and squeze out excess liquid in cubes before putting the dome back on. Frequency depends on the weight of the cube when checking it. The dome is clouded with humidity and dries out when I am watering. I also dry out the tray 80% the cubes sit in. Standing water isn't good in the tray.

Hope this helps you out...

Good Luck,
