Amsterdam is a great city to ride a bike around in. all the streets are flat, you don't even need any gears on your bike. in fact it's a good idea not to rent a flashy looking bike, as it will be a target for thieves, while the old banger version should be safe, if you use both locks they are provided with. over night you need to lock it to a fence or lamp post ideally speaking. barring that, leave it in a busy area, where some one braking your locks open would be visible to too many people to risk anything.
it's such a great and cheap way to get around, it puts you out of reach of any street dealers or potential pick pockets. but mainly it stops you wasting too much time going from one coffee shop or venue, to another and it's a lot of fun biking around with a nice up time sativa buzz going on lol.
