Hi friends. I was wondering if any of you put a paper towel at the base of each container to cover holes? I always did it that way so my soil wouldn't wash out the bottom each time i water, I have plants in gallon plastic container which i put a paper towel down i have to transplant them into bigger pots, I noticed that the paper towel over time turned black and didn't look right? Thanks in advance

In smaller pots , yes paper towel. In larger pots I use pieces of cheap smart pots.
I do this not to contain dirt but to keep fungus gnats from being able to come and go.

Get some landscape fabric, won't mold up or decompose.

I like the idea of nylon mesh if i wanted everything spotless, sometimes i do. Right now I grow in a cellar, its all DE and dirt floor anyways. Cant wait to remodel it. Paper towels wouldnt last me tho i do DTW coco.

They are in 1's going into 2.9 gallon rose pots, then into 7 gallon plastic containers for mother plants. I didn't add the paper towel, see how she goes. How about drying in a room with a t-5 in the closet in the same room? its not that intense of a light, plus i have a dehumidifier in the room. I heard something about lighting de grading plants that are hanging to dry? There is 4 florescents bulbs under the fixture that is semi closed in the closet, but there is a little light leakage on the hanging plants

I have done it with no issues ,even if it does end up looking funky...yeehaw...I generally use landscape fabric /weed blocker but have never had any issues using paper towels

I would put the fabric [or paper towel] inside the bag. On fabric pots, neither should be necessary, unless cheapo. Good luck. -granger
