I just couldn't stand to see them logs in need of some splittin' maul love :)

You know by now that the woods surround my house in about 1/2 acre of clearing.... It's a job keeping the woods from overtaking my place...

Um, just wanted you to know the last big one I cut was 3 months ago.... the brush and tops and limbs are long ago burnt,

but there's still 24 feet of 22 inch white oak that's just dying to meet you and your maul....!!:biggrin:

dang....

didn't always live here but have for a while. makes you appreciate wood.. seriously you can go for tens of miles in some places without more shade than one of these..

mesquite wood is beautiful but in most locales it doesn't grow real nice.. and if it hits the desert floor termites get it fast. i've been looking for a piece of mesquite for a knife handle (maybe 1 1/2" around) for a year or two now..

don't waste it! :)

It's pouring rain here and the roof of my home is tin with 3" X 6" rough cut cedar planking below that. when rain falls it's amplified/telegraphed here, during a drizzle a friend might say "Wow! it's really coming down hard" until I challenge them to step outside where they see it's not as much as it sounds like inside.

but make no mistake, it's really coming down tonight, have to run close caption (CCTV) because the volume's been drowned out.......

I have memory and awareness,
but I have no shape or form.

As a disembodied spirit,
I am dead, but yet unborn.

I have passed into Olympus,
as was told in tales of old.

To the cities of immortals,
marble white, and purest gold.

geesh, I'm drunk.

candied carrots -
melt real butter in a large sauce pan, add 2 large fresh carrots sliced into rounds the thickness of two quarters stacked together. Add fresh dill and fresh ginger, both minced. Cook on warm or simmer until carrots cook through. Stir on occasion. Add two teaspoons of honey comb honey. Saute 90 seconds. Serve.

Soak up that honey sauce with some fresh baked bread.

Yesterday was the first day that my granddaughter (8) realized that she can stand in the pool with her head out of the water. She was thrilled! She chucked her life preserver to grandma and was all over the place in there. My grandson (15) wasn't impressed, but I reminded him that he acted the same way when he was finally tall enough to stand in the pool. lol kids . . .

I spent 6 hours making the pasta sauce this morning, and now I have to finish it.

Finely chop and mince a combination of white onion, garlic chives, garlic and grate some fresh carrot, add 1/4 cup of olive oil to stock pot, and saute.

Then boil for 2 minutes 18 tomatoes, in 2 varieties. Soak in ice bath, remove the skin, chop medium fine chunks.

Chop and add garden fresh basil, rosemary, cilantro, thyme, sea salt; it's been boiling an hour at this point, because I've been chopping all the way through. Add honey, 2 teaspoons, heaped.

Add carrots to soak up the acidity; remove carrots 30 minutes later. Cook it covered in a deep pot, no vent, preserve those oils and flavors.

It's been in the fridge while I slept like a vampire, not it's time to brown some ground round, dish some sauce into a sauce pan and reduce it with beef stock to thin it back out and adjust the flavor.

Then it's time to combine the ground meat with the sauce and serve over a high quality pasta. Enjoy.
