Oh yes, "Amnesia" is the new "White Widow", which was the new (super)skunk. Especially in smaller towns, smaller shops with short menus if it's not haze but strong "white" strain it's sold as white widow. Same thing with Amnesia, if it's hazy.... The shop I buy my favorite Amnesia actually calls it Super Haze. Reminds me of when skunk was sold as super skunk because, well, you know, it's super (and one guilder more)I was being polite really mate, what I was actually saying is all the shops seem to mislabel Amnesia...
I sold quite a few zips from "hip bags" myself on the Wadden islands decades ago (no shops). Later (rave times) it made a come back to sell other stuff. Good times. As if cops didn't exist. Ended up working for the coffeeshop where I bought it. The idea to use the hip bag dealer came from the first shops in Amsterdam, if the cops came it wasn't the coffeeshop/theahouse owner that broke the law but the dealer sitting at the bar.24 years eh?
a lot has changed hasn't it? I used to like it when the dealer didn't actually work for the shop and just sat in the corner with his bumbag/fanny pack
Later some of the better shops had a "book". "Can I see the book?" was the common question to start with. Books normally used to store projector slides, but had instead zips with 'weed' and hash, so you could browse the books and pick from a few bags.
Nowadays they have a "bud tender", I had one who asked me for a tip... at greenhouse shop... for rubbing his sweaty thumbs over my nuggets to crumble of that last 0.01gram or whatever it was.
The main negative change imo is from recent years though, they closed so many shops in Amsterdam and it just gets busier, too busy in many shops. I liked to end the evening at Barney's - overpriced but great Macchiatos and the tangerine dream (from a good harvest...) tastes great in the free to use volcanos - but it's way too busy there. Baba is always full, don't even bother checking the original dampkring, can never sit at Jolly Joker and many others... I do tend to go on either Thursday night or Saturday, and new year's eve.
Years ago I used to end my coffeeshop tours in the Grasshopper despite their overpriced drinks, before they closed, became a steakhouse (that green lit building one the left when you walk from CS to the dam square). At least they had plenty of space.
And above all, I miss white Deutscher Meisters... every self-respecting shop had one, and still should imo. Great way to connect with new people and break language barriers.
I envy people who go to Amsterdam for the first time or just haven't seen it all yet. Boerenjongens is then 20min by tram, while after a few times it's a short walk from CS (take Zeedijk instead of Damrak, cross the Nieuwmarkt, take the Kloveniersburgwal street, cross the bridge, cross the Rembrandsquare diagonally, enter the Utrechtse straat and the new Hunters will be at the right and Boerenjongens across the bridge on the left.)
