Kerala is definetly a stop on my next trip. But I heard it's pretty expensive there by Indian standards, is that true?

Yeah-actually Taj is only thing that i wanna from Agra.So if i can get a night train to Varanasi that would be great..

I got impression that most land routes in this part of world are kind of "a bast*rd of a journey":D
But it is everything about how you take it!Even a very long journey can be fun especially so far away from home!
Just taaaaakkkkeeeee iiiiittttt eeeeeaaaaaaassssssyyyyy:D

Guys, what are equivalents of Manali,Kullu...in Nepal?
Thanx for stopping by!

Do go to Fatehpur Sikri if you are in Agra and have the time. It's really quite something.

Ah well, you're right about taking it easy. Basically, my take on it is, in India, it's not the distance that matters, it's how many hops and skips and jumps you have to make along the way. And, persoanlly, I can sit on a train for 24 hours but the buses are best avoided if possible. So Agra/Delhi to Varanasi is long journey (16hrs roughly) but is easy and pretty relaxed. However, even a 6 hour haul on a busy state/local bus route is going to test your calm. Some journeys - anywhere to Hampi for example - are famous for being a real pain in the arse. But often, when you get there, you realise that the reason some places are still unspoiled is that they are difficult to get to... case in point: nicest place I visited in India recently was Jageshwar (google it). Amazing place. Try getting there quickly!

Kullu equivalents in Nepal - there aren't any really, as charas cultivation is much more widespread in Nepal than in India. Places (as mentioned above) like Tattopani (on the Jomson route - not the one near Kathmandu) are famous for charas ; the area around Nepalganj is well known for lowland ganja growing. But, seriously, it's everywhere. These people have been smoking dope for 1000s of years and with a dirt poor, minimally effective State, in a mountain kingdom, with relatively few roads, you try stopping 'em!

Kerala is less expensive than Goa, for example. I reckon it only feels really more expensive than other parts of India because there are more expensive temptations: fish curries (more expensive than the veg food you'd be well advised to stick to in other places) ; booze being more accessible and hard to turn down when you are watching the sun go down ; temptingly better accommodation in many places (they have tourism nailed in Kerala) ; not so much in the way of trains to some places, so taxis become tempting ; the unmissable treats like a cruise on the backwaters in an old rice boat (pricey but you've got to do it)...

By almost any other country's standards, Kerala is really cheap. Nowadays, as I am old and spoiled (lol!) I budget for $30 a day in India and live in relative luxury ($15 on a nice hotel room ; the rest on food, smokes, travel. I don't usually drink booze). If you are staying anywhere for any length of time (like, a few weeks, and so negotiate cheaper rates on a room), you could still live very well for $15 a day. I'm sure many people still do it for less.

Glad to hear that mate!:tiphat:
You have been there quite a few times, arn't ya?:D
I see extensive knowledge when it comes to Nepal and India!Good stuff!

I will have exactly same budget.Although i have checked out and have realized that 30$ are doable it is good to have another confirmation. If 30$ can bring "relative luxury" in India than i guess i will be able to save some money in Nepal.Or i will live like MahaRaja there:D

$30 a day sounds good, spent $55 a day last time. I don't really know how we could spend that much. We spent between $4 and $7 per person per night on hotels and rarely drank alcohol.

I am from india , and i would definitely recommend you to have your wits about you when traveling from different places and going through check posts. Never keep the dope on you while traveling and keep it in a separate packet preferably.Kerala i would even suggest carrying the dope on you as those south indian mofos are verrrry anal when it comes to all this jazz.
Ive been caught several times up north with reasonable quanitites (50-100 gms) of hash , and was always let off with a warning and some were close calls where the dumbass cops searched my pants and i had about 50 grams of charas in my pockets and they frisked it , but didnt get suspicious :D .. fools ( but i got lucky)
But im usually not so scared about carrying reasonable quantities in india , since im indian and can usually talk my way outta it.Up north should not be so much of a problem , but since ur foriegner you should be careful man , cuz nobody wants to get pumped in a new country. As u keep going south its a BIG no no to carry shit with u when u travelling , especially with stinky ganja , charas is more stealth.
Just have your're wits about you , dont carry insane amounts , and if u wanna carry reasonable amounts then have some money ready to bribe those ****s.

hope that helps

Hey bro...
It's good to hear what a local guy have to say about the issue!
Well,it all comes up to something like;don't do things that you wouldn't do back home!
Having,as you say, reasonable amount when traveling(which is for couple of joints in mine case) should not be a problem as i can always hide it in underwear.
Anyway, thanx for stopping by and sharing some infos right from tha place!
Namaste!

Comparing Nepal to India

Comparing Nepal to India

I guess in my humble opinion, Nepal is by far the best place to obtain, smoke and have different varieties of hash from each different district.. the MUSTANG hash is technically where "TEMPLE BALLS" are from. In case you guys didn't know, Nepal's cannabis was only made illegal in 1974, when the USA paid the king 40million dollars to make cannabis illegal, those were the days of the infamous " EDEN HASH SHOP" and hotel, and oterh legal hash shops that was truely the first real "AMSTERDAM".. It's still tolerated in Nepal greatly, I travel with hash all the time on my motorbike with my wife and never ever get searched or pulled over, but INDIA? OMG, such harassment, Nepal none.

Being in INDIA makes me want to go home to Nepal, as Nepal is that much more beautiful and that much more tolerant. Not to mention the mountains are just spectacular.

I have lived in Varanasi as well, all the various BHANG SHOPS which the government subsidizesare great, but the cops will harass you.
Nepal is also cheaper than India...

I suppose I am more partial to Nepal due to having wife and residents here.

In short, both countries are satisfying and one can find incredible samples of hash , but it's safer to travel in Nepal with it.. especially trekking! but one should try to procure at their destination, ganja is all over Nepal.
