I am probably late to the game, but this is good advice.

I also believe that leaving leaves in place is generally recommended,
as they are the main energy producers for the plants.

I did clear things out recently, on my first serious (tent) grow, but
this was during the last 1-3 weeks of flowering, to help the lower
buds develop before harvest.

my next run i am going to cut back half and leave the other half, they will all have the same everything except 3 the leaves will be trimmed and the other left. as i read the end results to the above posted thread it seems it didnt really lean towards ether side, some swear by it, others against, im in the middle.
