Tinfoil over CFL's?

Is it ok to wrap tin foil directly to the coil tubing? If so, the tin foil I plan on using has gold on one side and a dull finish on the opposite side. Which side would offer greater reflectivity? thanks

That just sounds bad all around. You shouldn't hang anything from the coils on the light and tinfoil is really bad for hot-spotting. Use some panda film or mylar to put above the light.

why not just get those sockets that are built into those metal hoods, somewhat like a reflector, look at walmart in the shop light section.

The hot-spot makes sense. Probably not a good idea.
My problem is I have one of those 125 watt monsters. They make reflectors for them, but even the cheapest is around $100 - which kind of defeats the purpose.

My cab has lights hangin horizontal. I have about 2 maybe 3" from the ceiling which is metal duct work. No heat what so ever! Cool to the touch.
I'll try and throw a pic or 2 up for ya.

the cone shaped hoods are not efficient.
white rocks or a thin layer of perlite will help bounce 'round the ole light waves (or particles depending if you are observing it)

wtf is up w/ that
