Time for an xmas present for the grow

With Christmas over and a new year ahead I thought it was high time to do a bit of an upgrade for the tent. I've got a 5x5x6.5 tent lit with a 630 CMH. I had a 4 inch fan and carbon filter for the first two rounds, but I think I want a little more capability and control. So I was thinking of getting this friendly fellow:

Is this overkill, not enough, or just the right size? Any thoughts, experiences and advice are greatly welcome. Anyone know if the noise reducer they sell would be a worthwhile addition. I'd probably get their carbon filter too.
Happy new year everybody, let's grow some weed:woohoo:

I would go with a more powerful fan for a space that size. I want a fan with a cfm rating around 3x the cf of work space.

I’m interested in their noise reducers but never used one. Have seen diy stoners make their own with old ice coolers.

IMHO that fan is more than enough to handle that size tent. I understand that a higher capacity fan that is variable speed could work, unfortunately, if "too" powerful, you start having temp and RH issues, fucking with your VPD.

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. My goal with this upgrade is tighter environmental control and I think this unit gives me that ability with its monitoring capability. I think my soil mix is pretty good, but I had big temp and humidity swings that I want to reduce in severity, if not eliminate. I've read that keeping swings under 10% is a goal to shoot for.

It is a good choice. AAMOF I have bookmarked it. Is that CAD or USD?

Unfortunately for you and me it's in American dollars. I think I'm leaning towards that and picking up one of their carbon filters to go with it. I'll see if they have any local Canadian retailers here on the Island. I try to support my local hydro shops. Maybe I'll see if they can order it in. If I do get this one and order it I can let you know what it works out to in Canadian when it's all said and done with taxes, shipping etc. And I see that you are a Canadian naval veteran, I brought the new year in a bay or two over from a base you probably spent a lot of time at. Happy new year.

Happy New Year Spud :)

A filter and fan combo is $265 and change + shipping & perhaps duty. Ouch! $72 for the filter. What I didn't like wrt the filter they never rated its CFM which is the most important part. But yes I do like the fan & its controller but, there are a ton of that stuff here.

Now, I know shit on the Island is slightly more expensive than the mainland. So you know better than me. I know the retail prices on the mainland are gouging.

I have a couple of AC Infinity fans and I'm happy with them. They're a heck of a lot quieter than anything else I've seen and they blow pretty hard. You can pick up an S6 on Amazon Canada for CDN $149 and the T6 is $199.

Thanks for the info. Do you run their sound reducer as well? Is it worth picking up do you think?

I have the 4in, it's incredibly quiet. I have not flowered in that cab yet, can't attest to the effectiveness of their carbon filter. I don't think you will need the noise reducer. I sleep a couple feet away, and it doesn't bother me.

I don't have the sound reducer. I have the 4 inch one and it's whisper quiet on speed 1-8, and even on 10 it's quieter than my fridge when it kicks on and quieter than the fan in my bathroom. Unless you're running it on high all the time I don't think it would be necessary unless you're really worried about sound for some reason.

Sound reducers are nice, you can easily make one if you have a sheet metal shop near you. Its the same concept as a car muffler.

With a small tent setup, running a sealed light hood and a ducting the hood outside would help you control things without leaking smell. You can even direct that heat into your house during the cold months to utilize that heat!
