Ticks

Well, here is a sad update on this little tick issue that you may not like.

With all probability i picked up Lyme disease as the rash that was initially only localized around the bite-mark is now spreading in that typical bullseye fashion. Waiting on blood sample to get back but i fear the worst and fear the drugs even more that are surely to follow.

I learned my lesson for sure this time since i was not covered very well with just lycra riding shorts attending to my outdoor garden in the woods.

Fuck, why cant i do my friggen gardening in peace somewhere friggen safe where i am not faced with a friggen possibility of death?

Any trips into the bush thats infested with ticks should immediately be followed by a strip down, bath and remove ticks, head and all.

You run a lesser risk of getting a disease if you quickly(within a few hours?) remove ticks.

Enjoy the antibiotics. You'll have break outs throughout your life, mostly when your immune system is depressed, or otherwise stressed out.

Hopefully things dont get too serious.

Good luck.

i had Lyme as i was young!!!!
And since some years we have meningitis, too in my area......and i can tell u i am feared of these lil. bastards............u make my self sometimes carzy after getting ticks here....hopefully i dont have a meningitis

Once you have Lymes, you always have Lymes.

There is no HAD to it.

i know that hunters, as well as myself, use anise extract, or anise oil. i went to the grocery store, they have anise extract used for making licorice. I take that and fill up a spray bottle with water, then add the desire amount of extract to the sprayer. Shake it up and spray on yourself. When i go out for hours where i know lots of bugs are, i make a stronger solution, but usually 4 or 5 drops is enough, just enough to make you smell like licorice. Also you can add some drops to your laundry detergent when washing the clothes that you plan on wearing, works great. stuff is dirt cheap too. Ive used this spray across the US on roadtrips, works everywhere, just be prepared to spray yourself EVERYWHERE, head to toe. doesnt hurt your skin either like DEET. hope this helps

If an infected tick probably just as/after it bites which I'm guessing is not very long at all.

Transmission takes on average of 24 hours doctors reckon. As soon as the tick is able to start regurgitating the fluids back into the wound it is sucking on is when this transmission can occur. This is also why it is suggested that you not grab the ticks body when trying to pull it out since this will lead to you forcing the stomach fluids of the tick back into the wound.

It has been suggested to me that the tick be removed by twisting it in a circle and this is not advised as this action may lead to the mouth parts of the tick getting stuck inside the wound. You are supposed to grab the tick as close to the head as possible and then pull gently straight out till he lets go of you and then bag that sucker up for inspection.

There are positives for everything and if i do have that shitty disease, and i hope i don't, then i will start toking with impunity. Too bad we in the UK are not as intelligent as our cousins across the pond when it comes to medical MJ here since we only have the movement to make MJ for patients but no success yet. I have hopes.....

And, no, i was not implying that brits are dumb but just that we seem to be a bit behind the times and need more time to get to that point of being able to dispense this stuff.

Yeah...after some research seems like that's pretty accurate.
Most studies on tick bites indicate that the tick requires 24-48 hours of attachment to transmit the infection. This is probably true in the vast majority of cases although disease transmission has been documented with as little as 6 hours of attachment. In areas with a high incidence of infected ticks only 1-3 % of people with a known tick bite develop Lyme disease. The risk of disease clearly increases with the duration of attachment. Unfortunately, many people who develop Lyme disease don't remember a tick bite.
Found one case where a girl got infected after only 4 hours of attachment but for sure that's not 'normal'.

I grew up in Connecticut and moved out just around the time Lyme disease started to get some press. It's for sure out in Cali in the mountains where I live as some friends have gotten infected. I don't go bushwhacking much but have kept a few girls in a wetlands area and came back one day with ticks...decided to find a different spot next year.
Signs and symptoms of Lyme disease can include an expanding rash, fever, headache, chills, muscle pain, joint pain, and fatigue. The rash, one of the earliest symptoms, typically appears between 3 and 30 days after an infectious tick bite. Not everyone with Lyme disease develops the rash. Untreated Lyme disease can develop into joint swelling, nervous system problems, or heart problems.

Symptoms of HA and babesiosis include a high fever, chills, headache, and muscle aches. These symptoms appear approximately one to three weeks after the tick bite for HA and one to six weeks or more after the tick bite for babesiosis. Although people of all ages can get HA and babesiosis, they are most severe in people who are elderly or immune compromised.

Blacklegged ticks need to be attached for 24 to 48 hours to transmit Lyme disease bacteria and
12 to 24 hours to transmit HA bacteria. People who develop signs or symptoms of a tick-related illness after spending time in blacklegged tick habitat should see a physician right away, even if they don’t remember getting a tick bite. Lyme disease, HA, and babesiosis are treatable. Early diagnosis and treatment are important in preventing severe illness. Some people develop two or more of these diseases from the same tick bite.

I don't know if this'll help or not, but you can buy these collars for dogs that deter ticks & fleas. Maybe the active ingredient can be found in some bug spray. Or if not.. you could maybe carefully hang a couple from your clothing.
(You can buy those bee hat type of things that're like a transparent fine mesh to keep them off your head and shoulders).

Sorry to hear mate, seems like we had Lymes in UK since 1800's but with the high deer populaqtion we have now it seems to be spreading. There are more deer here now than in Robin Hoods day. Wishing Speedy recovery.
