Trimming is a product of prohibition? No mate, trimming is a product of fussy people like me hating the taste of leaf! I happily re-trim a lot of the bud I smoke just before crushing it up, guess most people's standards are lower than mine as far as leaves are concerned. And like someone mentioned the more you take off the bud, the better the hash will be, nawwadahmean?

What's amazing, if you're like me and were smoking all the way back to the early 70's, is that there was a time when few if any of us knew better and we were all pretty much smoking a lot of leaf with that bud. What I noticed one day though after I started trimming as much leaf away as possible and I decided to try a joint rolled of the dried, trimmed bud leaf was it had the same taste as the after taste or under tone of the weed I smoked in the 70's. Once I made the decision to start doing the tight trim the taste of bud improved dramatically.

tight bud is hard to make hash from unless you break it up right. truth

That's why I make it from the trim and save my buds for smoking as buds. Just let the trim get good and dried and cured like you do the bud then after a couple of months, put it in a moisture tight container, freeze it, dry sift it and you got yourself some nice really clean hash (provided you don't try to work the trim into the screen too hard.

Oh ya, tight trimmed bud can be because they are removing bug damage or powdery mildew etc. Lame commercial tricks. Peace GS

I would think they would want to leave as much leaf in as they can get away with to add useless weight and to make it harder to tell how much it's been kiefed?

Well now I'm not sure harsh chlorophyll taste would be the right way to describe that taste I'm thinking of. I imagine it could be the chlorophyll after going thru a curing process but when I hear an expression like "harsh chlorophyll taste from smoking leaves" I think of stuff that looks more like parsley because it's almost entirely fan leaves or even male leaves that have been quick dried somehow. That's an even worst taste although somewhat similar.

I remember back in the day, right after the US and Mexican governments worked together to spray all the marijuana fields they could find with paraquat, there was a long dry spell on the streets of a couple of years. During that time a lot of folks tried to turn to growing weed even though they had no idea how to. As a result a lot of that very green, quick dried, "Home Grown" started showing up on the streets even though it was the result of failed crops. I remember one buddy who droped by one day all proud of himself for having scored a whole pound for the price of a quarter pound. He pulled out this big bag of very green, nasty tasting stuff that if you got high before you got a headache, it was mostly thru the power of suggestion. It was kind of amazing how quickly he went from being giddy at the thought of scoring a great deal to being pissed off about being ripped off. I'm pretty sure though this was where the notion of "Home Grown" being a bad thing came from.

Yeah I know but that's not the same taste as the taste I associate with leaf that's been cured along with the bud. It's very similar but the quick dried stuff is even worse then the cured leaf.

Yeah, the cheap bushweed in my country is cured for a long time traditionally, but leafy as hell and weird tasting to I know both tastes we're chatting about well

Unfortunately I know them pretty well too and that's why I trim my buds tight, so I don't have to know any more of that flavor then absolutely necessary.
