This Ain't Ya Daddys AC Box!!!

so how does it work i just bought a 12000 btu window unit and need to build a box .can u show pictures of all sides .it looks like u taped alot of the air intakes on the side and are now force feeding cool air into it and exhausting the back.what is that material your using .it looks like it would work and looks clean and easy.

the way i set up my ac to catch the drip is i got 2 big rubbermaid tubs and put a stack of milk crates in each tub then put the a/c on top of milk crates with a slight tilt .i duct taped the gap between the two rubbermaid containers so water wouldnt drip in between, i woulda just used one rubbermaid tub but they dont make them big enough.so basically the water that comes out drips through the milk crates and collects into the tubs .i planned on putting a cheap water pump into each tub in case i had to get the water out without taking the crates out and the ac down but not much water came out.

i would say the hose on the side brings air in. the one on the back takes it out. simple. most likely has a fan sucking on rear hose.

That is an excellent DIY!
Only thing I would want to do, is make certain that I opened up the grill on the air intake side. Closing the other two openings has restricted the intake air flow, and it may be enough to cause the system to labor. I think if the side opening is tin snipped open real nice, this is a fantastic method.

The intake side would probably be efficient with no fan at all, and just letting the unit fan pull in fresh air, but I would plug a small push fan to it...maybe a Suncourt inline.
A Stanley blower would evacuate that set-up quite well.

u guys make it sound like an ac box is so hard to build... i just built one in 15 minutes and it works great... when u put the ac in the box just slide it in till the side and top vents are even with the box... if u do it right it will work as a dehumidifiyer as well. here is an image of how they work. just leave side vents in your room and have the back of the ac exit outside...

also tilt the front of the ac down and all your water will drip out the front in the bottom and u can put a bucket under it... i mounted my ac box right to my window box. if u dont have a screw hole or somethin on the bottom of your ac u will have to drill one so the water can drip out of it and into a bucket

wow those do look pretty good and simple to make, but i like to keep the intake air commin from the room that way it acts as a dehumidifier also... are there any leakedge issues with that tape?

That is a pretty tight looking build. That thing has got to run pretty loud, eh? Must keep it nice and cool, that's a big fucker.

Is this true? Will it only dehumidify if the intake comes from the room? I thought condensation occurs on the cold coil...
