Thiols are the sulfur analogue of alcohols (that is, sulfur takes the place of oxygen in the hydroxyl group of an alcohol), and the word is a blend of "thio-" with "alcohol", where the first word deriving from Greek θεῖον (theion) meaning "sulfur".
Thioacetate, strongest smell on earth.
Fungal metabolites can giveth thiols..
And fungus can taketh away thiols..
Look at all the thiol hating liars below. Thiols in Cannabis aren't of medical use, but talk of their associated metabolites and cofactor value might be reason to keep classic weed flavors out of the publics consciousness.
Recreationally speaking thiols contribute heavily to retronasal flavor in regular old soil grown weed. Not just funky flavors; fruit, coffee, a wide array of flavors are created by thiols, exclusively in most cases. Google the associated thiols of your favorite food, you might be surprised.
Terpenes deserve zero credit for any distinctive property of Cannabis. I never detected a terpene in mature Cannabis until I walked into a dispensary, and subsequently threw dried, harvested Marijuana in the trash for the first time. Not all terpenes are spotlight stealing lacroix flavored garbage, but for the ones repeatedly talked about in Cannabis media? It's no secret amongst the scientific community:
More Cannabis liars. I wonder what else these people lie about for a living.
Cannabis is 100% money and marketing. Cannabis, part of the machine before even fully legalized..?
