Things going wrong quickly

hehe stitch u'r right, i went quickly through the pics and one plant seems like it's yellow on the top, but i think it's the HPS color that did that to my eyes

so you'r right, but still we'r left with that epsom salts.....hmmm maybe a cup of fresh soil would do the trick, how about he transplants them into fresh soil? they'r still in the safe veggie zone, so they can grow new roots if the conditions are right?

he could also use the existing soil just "dilute" it with some fresh one and then put them back in the pots? ey?

I had the EXACT same problem just this past 2 months. Used happy frog soil for the first time, and I've never ever had problems growing anything. All the plants were slow growing and showed nitrogen and mag deficiencies. I just gave my babies away and decided to call it quits. I'm glad others are having this problem, because that means it wasn't ALL my fault... Hope everything is going better for your girls...

Makes good sense about the fan leaves, Stitch. I will leave them in the future unless they are too bushy around the bottom and interfering with good circulation.

Please remember T5, that magnesium salts are SALTS and in excess can rob your plant of moisture, as sodium can, and mimics underwatering because literally the salts in the soil will draw water from your plants if the salt concentration is higher in the soil than in the plants.

This is the main reason why too much chem ferts dumped on your lawn will burn it. It isn't technically burning, it's starving the plant of moisure and the plant yellows and dies as if it has been burnt.

Real good point, Sharp_Pain. thanks for that!

Some of them are getting better. You guys have nailed it on the head. Flushing with epson did more harm than good because that new combo of soil in the new bag left them soggy. I am doing a couple of things. I moved a number of them over to HPS light and going to see if we can get the soil to drain and dry.

Modified those bags so they drain better. I am working on getting the temperature range tighter. I actually had my wife doing the work so I am hoping to get out and see how they are doing as soon as I am able.

Thanks for the advice and discussion. Live and learn.

Good stuff T5

Another thing I noticed.....You need to add 30% perlite to that soil, the sooner, the better. This means taking them out of the pots, shaking loose soil out, adding new soil mixed with perlite. Drainage holes won't do any good if the soil likes to stay sogged. Perlite will provide drainage. Ocean Forest /HF needs perlite. Please wear a mask when handling perlite, vermiculite (I don't recommend using this) and any organic dry nutes, especially guanos. They can make you sick.

To better condition your soil, add nutrients and help it resist clumping, add 20% worm casting. This is real good stuff.

One other question: Do you have a small fan blowing air on your plants gently, or oscillating? That will help with humidity and soggy soils.

If you want to get off the FoxFarm tit all together and mix your own cocosoil, no perlite required and so much closer to ideal ph naturally than peat based mix, let me know. :D

You are welcome for the help. We love helping, especially when it is appreciated. One day you can come back and help someone else.

THey do not need any nutrients? Thats nuts scegy, first off he rarely fed them, so if he rarely fed them how can there be to much if his plants have been in the mixture for a while?

Another thing, he already was over watering which also locks out nitrogen from soggy soils. So if he flushes he will not only contribute MORE to over watering; but he will also be flushing out any left over nutrients that the plant needs, because there already is small amounts in there from him not feeding. So flushing=bad

He is not over feeding he is starving his plants scegy, and he has over watered them too, so flushing will make everything worse!

I quoted myself.... why did you flush them with epsom salts T5, let alone FLUSH them when I said it would make matters worse?

I think he is referring to the time before this thread when his friend suggested he flush with epsom and he did.

Yes that is correct. I was referring to my first set of advice. Before I started getting more analysis.
But you guys are right on the money. That Happy Frog is a sponge. So I understand why now so much perlite it a good idea. My wife say a tv story on vermiculite and wont use it anymore. But just got to keep light and fluffy.

I did move things around and yes I have a fan going always. The move to HPS got some results and they are drying up now and looking better. The super skunk acutally got down to a 2 so we gave it an ever so lightly feeding to see if we can green it up a bit.

But I have tried some of everything suggested. And things are looking better I think. I was able to go out to my grow today and my wife did a fine job.

aHH OK, I was like noOooOOOOOO! LOL

vermiculite has asbestos; which if inhaled can cause lung cancer, I think it takes a constant exposure, but hell why take any chance ya know?

oh, you got your wife taking care of the plants? I see... make all the woman do the work! LAZY STONER! j/k j/k :D
THat's cool though I do not see many wife/husband boyfriend/girlfriend boyfriend/boyfriend girlfriend/girlfriend grows much anymore.....

Still looking better. The lower growth looks bad but new stuff growing on the top.

My wife is great. I am a medical user so when I get benched, she jumps in and keeps things going. I also have a very trusted buddy that has helped me when I was out of gas. So they get credit and we all are grateful to everyone here. I mean we have had those nights when we read Jorge's book and try and figure it out, end up getting stoned and then realizing we have access to experience right here.

So thanks again. although somewhat beat up, we have lost none!

My wife helps....smoke it, that is!

That lower growth won't recover, but the plant will grow new stuff.

I agree, I started with Ed Rosenthal books, CC and HT mags, but that was like kindergarten compared to the knowledge I gained here.

Cheers to your wife and buddy, T5. Good people.
