Smoking on is the way to go....I'm looking to put something like this, in my box.
I would like to regulate temps a little better

ok gusy...without having to take off the outlet...could I do this...get a heavy duty SHORT extension cord, ill cut it too like 1foot then do what you guys are saying...I think I got it... I wouldn't connect the white wire of the fan, to the white wire of the extension cord? and would I connect the fan ground and the extension ground, or mount them on the thermo ground screw?

You DON'T need to remove ANY OUTLETS, you simple need to cut the power cord going to your fan. You kinda got it.....here....bad diagram but imma try lol

Red or Black wire from plug-------||-------Wire into fan @<FAN
...........................................^
........................................T-stat
white wire from plug----------------Wire into fan @<FAN

Ground wire------------------------------------@<FAN

Just cut the cord and wire nut each wire from t-stat so it is interrupting the power to your fan. That way....when the temp goes up...it will close the circuit and turn on your fan. Kinda get it??

On my Hurricane, I needed to wire a speed controller (exact same installation). I didn't cut any wires, I just unscrewed the little plastic junction box (on the Hurricane; to see it better) and followed the black wire from the plug to where it went into the little plastic junction box. Then you unscrew the black wire from the LPJB (noting exactly where it came from), connect that to one wire of the thermo with a wire nut, then connect the other thermo wire to the spot on the LPJB where you unscrewed the black wire. Done, and you can reverse-engineer it back to factory specs so as not to void any warranty (10 years on a Hurricane) if you ever need service.

i don't get at all what your saying...but...I did hook up a shitt 2 prong fan with the thermostat with someones advice from this thread, and it worked...so when my other vortex gets here, I am going to give it a whirl...where do I hook up the ground wires from the fan too? and where do I hook up the ground wire from the extension cord? I just left them blank on this one today...I connected the white wires together though...it worked just fine...

Keep in mind, if you're going to splice it on the power cord, you need to account for that part of the cord actually being inside the cab...stupid perhaps, but stranger things have happened.

what do you mean? I am thinking of putting my thermostat outside the cab so I can turn the fan on manually during night cycle if I need too...I will just set it accordingly...

how will your t-stat read temps outside your box?? aren't you concerned with temps inside it??

yeah, but my room and cab temperature are relative to each other...it's always 3* higher in the cab during lights on...I will account for that...the reason I want the t-stat outside is so if i want to manually turn the fan on during the light cycle, i will be able too...just by turning the knob to adjust the temp...
