there is an entry in my closet to the attic of my apt. complex

I live in an apt. complex and there is an entry to the roof, from the ceiling, it isn't the kind with stairs, it's just a ceiling board, I thought it was sealed, but I just checked it and I can lift up that board, is odor going to go up there and go to other people's apts.? after I lifted it up, the fiberglass that I guess was covering the board fell through and I can't get it perfect and now there's a small gap on one end, if maintenance people walk up there, they'll be able to hear the vortex fan or even see everything if they move the board. my plant is still early in it's stage, should I get rid of it? or if I put weatherstripping around it, would it be ok?

I just noticed while trying to get that board on there correctly, there are wires that run directly across that space, so nobody is going to walk there, but if anybody is up there, I'm sure they'll be able to hear the fan

i'm thinking of adding a sheet of black painters plastic over that part, do you think that would be good enough? so if anybody opens that part they won't be able to see anything

Get some High density foam or some Acoustic foam. Also pick up a board of wood from Lowes/HD that is the size of the board that covers the attic entrance (maybe even a little wood glue).

Find a way to attach/adhere the foam to the board,if you are worried about odor then you need to get a carbon filter/scrubber,they can be bought from $75+ depending on size and can be built for much cheaper.

i've got a carbon scrubber, but i've heard of odor still escaping from people's cab even with a scrubber so I was worried, but I am also worried about the fan, I'll pick up some of that foam and see what happens

If people have odor leaking from their cabs when using a carbon scrubber then something is wrong like they have too small of a scrubber (the stiky air must have a 0.1 second contact time with the carbon/charcoal to be effectively deodorized).

They may be using two fans, one for intake and one for exhuast and this can lead to odors leaking especially when the inlet fan is moving more air then the exhuast fan.

As long as the carbon filter is large enough and you have the properly matched fan so you get that 0.1 second contact time with the carbon/charcoal and you have a negative pressure environment you should not have any odor leaks.....until you open the grows door!Smack in the face with lovely dankiness odours.

do apt. complexes have their own entry into the attic? or is it only through a tennants apt.? my ceiling changes levels and is slanted in some areas so I would think it would be hard to just walk here from somebody else's apt. attic

Growing in property that is not yours let alone an apartment complex with a community attic is VERY risky, I wouldn't do it. I don't care how hard it looks getting to your grow from another apartment. Kids and determined people will go to no end to satisfy their curiosity of what that strang smell might be.

I'm starting to think the same thing, I know I've spent a lot on equipment, and a carbon scrubber and am only planning on growing 1 plant for personal in a cab, and in my state there aren't any cultivation laws, so it would be pretty close to the same as if I bought it from somebody and got pulled over, except they might try to add an intent to distribute. Since I'm inexperienced and it's my first grow, I don't think I would have a high yeild, I don't even think I'm going to succeed with this plant, I've messed up a couple seedlings so I can't imagine having a successful grow for a while. Although I'm still thinking of stopping everything, I've already been through a "preventive maintenance" with my apt. complex where I had to remove everything since they were going to random apt. doing preventive mainetance.

It should be stated in your lease that property owner/Landlord/Maintenece people should notify you within atleast 24 or more hours of visitation.

In 2 years of living in an apartment I have never had a problem with the matinence man (he's my neighbor and used to supply me 6 years ago) or the landlord.I told my landlord that I would like it to be in the lease that I must be notified 24-48 hours ahead of time so that i may clean the apartment or to make sure that I will be there.

Another thing you can do if it is a small complex like a 4-8 apartment building you could get to know your landlord and if he/she seems like an understanding person you could tell them that you like gardening but after many years of some unsuccesful seasons (thanks to pests,storms/wind/rain) that you bagn growing indoors under H.I.D. lighting and you pull so many succesfull disease and pest free yeilds/harvests of insert plant(s) of choice (tomatoes, chilli peppers, bell peppers...you get the idea).

Good idea is to actually grow insert plant choice(s) here for a while and invite them to see insert plant choice(s) here and your setup.

No matter what you do,if your lease says nothing about notifying you of a visit ahead of time by atleast 24 hours then make sure it is in the lease you sign next year.
