They seem to be touring the states hard

It's a trip that the stones and the who are playing casino theaters and arenas, i keep just missing both even though they play nearby, bankantlantic is outside fort lauderdale? Bad timing for me, please enjoy the show and give us a review.

I laughed my ass off last month when pete townsend bailed out of a live performance on the howard stern show, they brought up the internet kiddie porn charge that he plead guilty to. he ran like a scared bitch. roger daltrey stayed on and talked some but was pretty hostile.

Wow....it kinda' surprises me that more people havn't responded. It seems like noone is really interested in The Who these days. I bought two tickets and I can't even find anyone to who wants to go. Oh well.

O.K. folks, here it is.

The Who
Concert Review.

Monday November 20, 2006
Venue: The BankAtlantic Center, Sunrise Florida
Opener: The Pretenders
Main Show: The Who

Around dusk on Monday night, I pulled into Sunrise Florida. I immediately got lost. Must have been all the smoke in the van. Lucky for me there were many signs to point me toward my destination; the BankAtlantic center. As I cruised up Panther Parkway I saw a modest scrolling LED sign..."Tonight - Live - The Who"....and so I pulled in to the carefully secured parking lot. I rolled down the window and as the smoke rolled out I was immediately greeted by a parking staff member who silently cocked her head a little and held the palm of her hand toward the sky and extended it to me. At the same time I noticed the sign she was standing next to which read "General Parking, $25.00, Have Money Ready". Then I realize that apparently the $115.00 dollar tickets I bought don't cover the parking at the venue and I fumbled to find the two twenties I had stashed in my console. I punched the money out to her in disgust. She smiled and snatched my money, gave me my change and pointed me to my designated lot. The gate Nazis where happy.
I backed my van into a nice space where I could see everyone around me and decided to recline the seat back and ready myself for the show. I stepped out of the driver’s seat and moved around to the back of the van where the tinted windows offered a bit more privacy. I then proceeded to clam-bake my van as best as I could. As I was sitting there, I saw same folks who were around my age tossing a foam football around and tipping back a few beers. Across the lot where some old hippies turned yuppies sitting on coolers and jamming out the stereo in their late model Lexus. Other than that there were mostly middle class baby boomers just steadily shuffling into the arena. The night had set in along with the unseasonably cold weather and I felt like I was prepared to venture out of the van. So I put my black jacket on and opened the door to the outside. This time the smoke really rolled out and across the parking lot but no one really took notice. The cold wind was sharp but it was still too early to go in for me. I stepped over to the group who was playing football and politely asked if I could buy a beer from them as I extended a couple of singles at them. "No, man...you can have a beer." one said, and his girlfriend lifted the lid on the cooler and pitched me a Bud Light. Ahh man, was I thirsty too. I continued to make polite but awkward small talk with the group for about twenty minutes while I finished off my beer and then snuck my getaway to the arena.
As I entered the BankAtlantic Center's main entrance I saw people being searched and tickets being scanned. I decided it was best to stuff my hitter box in my waistband to avoid detection but they never even stopped me. As they scanned my ticket it occurred to me that not only had I paid $115 a ticket, but I had two tickets on me. No one, and I mean no one would go to this fucking concert with me. I must smell bad or something. It was nice to be in the warmth of the arena and I checked my ticket for my seating location. Section 114 row 13. I mulled around a bit while trying to find my seat. I had to check out the vendors and beer booths to see what I had to work with. Almost immediately my eye caught a bottle of Miller Lite sitting in a tub of ice and I totally honed in on it. "I would like a Miller Lite bottle", I said to the lady running the booth. She hands it to me," That will be $7.00 sir." Ouch!!
At this time, I'm thinking I should find my seat and sit down. I wouldn't want to risk tripping or stumbling and accidentally spilling some of my $7.00 beer. I found my seat(s) in the middle of row 13 and being the first to sit in that particular area I side stepped to my seat. I just kicked back and sipped on my beer for awhile checking out the massive expansiveness of the building and reading the various billboards and advertisements while everyone slowly shuffled in. Suddenly the lights dimmed to darkness and a big white sign that says 'Pirate Radio' with a skull and lightening bolts lights up on stage and the crowd begins to applaud. I must admit, at first I had no idea who the opening act was and I was sitting far enough away that I could not really recognize any faces. It was a woman lead with an all male band. Then the music began. It was The Pretenders( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pretenders ) I wasn’t disappointed with the set even though I have never been a real big fan. They rocked out with some classics like "My City was Gone" and "Back on the Chain Gang". Not bad considering I didn't even know that there was going to be an opener.
After the forty-five minute set they took their bows and the arena lights where illuminated once again. The sound crew took the stage like a nest of ants and began to do their thing. I decided that this would be a good time to find a cheaper beer and so I went to explore. I did the bathroom shuffle along with hundreds of other beer toting spectators to relieve my aching bladder and then I found the food court. I saw people with some 20oz. plastic beer cups and began to retrace their steps to find out where they got them. Their line of direction led me to an empty counter with two little beer taps. Ah ha, and so I went. The girl behind the counter smiled as I asked for a draft,....make that two drafts. "That will be $13.00, sir.", she exclaimed. Ouch!
So I ever so carefully took myself, double fisted, back to my seat. By this time the place was getting pretty full for the main show. When I arrived back at the area where I was sitting I had to politely ask five people to stand up so that I could squeeze past them and get to my seat. They all reluctantly stood up and I got the opportunity to rub my ass against everyone's crotch on the way past while trying not to fall or spill my beers. At this point I was glad that the seat next to me was still empty. That gave me just enough breathing room to be comfortable. Two beers later the lights where still on and I had to urinate so bad I could damn near taste it. So, again, the crowd reluctantly stood up to let me pass and I did the bathroom shuffle. I had just stepped out of the bathroom when I realized that people where outside on a huge balcony smoking so I stepped out. I saw a mid twenties new age hippie type and asked to bum a smoke which he obliged. Mmm...menthol. I finished off my smoke when I realized that the wind was blowing in just the right direction that I could actually stand out there and get blasted. And so I did. I was not the only one, either. I saw a couple of twenty somethings huddled behind a concrete pillar stealing hits from a sneak-a-toke. They were kinda funny to watch because the way they were standing and looking around, there was no doubt about what they were doing. I chuckled to myself a bit and stole one last hit before returning to my seat.
Having just chugged a few beers ( I never drink ) and making all that carnal contact with the people sitting next to me, I had no problem loosening up for the show. I got back just in time. The lights went dead and some shadows began to move on stage. The crowd goes silent and then applause. Suddenly I heard "da-da da-da da-da" of an electric guitar igniting "Can't Explain" for the opener. Four massive movie screens came alive with vintage footage of the original Who and stage lights illuminated the band. They slammed out three classics in a row. Spot lights and psychedelic strobes hit Roger Daltry as he belts out, " ...to get on the bus that takes me to you." Pete Townshend takes his signature stance stage left with a glossy red electric guitar hanging from his neck. I noticed that the music was loud but not really loud like most concerts so I did not get that rattle your body feeling like usual but the big screens and psychedelia effect show more than made up for it ultimately leading to a very real and unique experience. I was impressed with the physical health of Pete and Roger and they jammed just like they did in the old days. There was definitely no lack of enthusiasm on their part. At this point I was feeling fairly intoxicated and was fully zoned into the show. I recall watching Roger Daltry jam out on the harmonica during "Baba O'riely" while Pete jammed the guitar in the background. And the lava lamp effects where memorizing during 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. The Who also mixed in a few songs in from their new album "Endless Wire". They were good but I was not overly impressed. It seemed like a lot of tribute type of songs to performers of the past. All you Elvis fans out there would love a new tribute song that they performed called, "A Real Good Lookin' Boy". I was personally there to hear the old classics and there was no shortage of them during the show. Classics full of Pete Townshend jamming his guitar in windmill fashion and Roger Daltry swinging his microphone wildly only to snatch it back up to deliver the next line. The show concluded quickly with sharp "Good Night Everybody.", from Pete and they left stage setting the scene for an encore. After about two minutes they returned to the stage and a roaring crowd and kicked off their encore set with 'Pinball Wizard'. After that I was ready to go but they continued with some "Tommy" songs to conclude the night. In the end, Pete and Roger seemed to reluctantly embrace for a photo shot and they gave their goodnights. Pete leaves the stage with, "Good night, and be lucky!" .
The crowd was going wild right up until they turned the arena lights on and everyone fell silent and shuffled orderly out of the building. Myself and a few other patient souls kicked back in our seats and watched everyone leave until ushers pushed us to leave also. The scene was the same as I left the building. People shuffling out into the parking lot and into their cars. Some drunks are still whooping and hollering yet the scene was still very orderly. I sat in my van and watched most the people leave before I, too, made my exit. Of course, I had to have a smoke while I sat there. Just as I was lighting up, some thirty something drunken yuppie spots me and starts yelling, “Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” and walk over to my window for a puff. Being the nice guy that I am, I packed up a nice green hit and let him have it. Some of my good AK48. Truly some of the strongest shit I have ever smoked in my life and I was giving it to some yuppie who probably hadn’t smoked since high school. I wished him luck and sent him on his way.
Luckily there were no fees, taxes or charges to leaving the property because I was flat broke. I split out onto the highway and I was gone just as fast as I came. All the while singing to myself....."we're all wasted!!" All in all, it was a fantastic performance and everything you would expect when the show ended. Unfortunately the ticket and vendor prices left a bad taste in my mouth as well as all the commercialism and will definitely effect my decision on whether or not to return to the BankAtlantic Center or any more WHO shows in the future. But at least now I can say I have seen "The Who" live in concert. Can you?

I love the Who. They are a fantastic band.
I saw Deep Purple a few years ago and that was a trip. Joe Satriani was mind blowing right before em, but they were unbelievable. Jon Lords was absolutely amazing! They did not have Ritchie Blackmore with them, which sucked, but they did have Steve Morse( I believe...). He was great, kicked alot of ass on his 15 minute solo.
I also saw the Steve Miller Band a few months ago, and goddamn. Let me tell you, Johnny Lang sucked ass! But Steve Miller was excellent. I would definitely go see him again. He tore that guitar up!!
A good time was had by all.. :joint:
