The Virus strikes!

At 95, Alma Clara Corsini might be the oldest woman in Italy to recover from the novel coronavirus, and the Gazetta Di Modena reports she did it without antiviral therapy.

Corsini was admitted to a hospital in Pavullo in northern Italy on March 5 after being diagnosed with COVID-19, which has infected more than 60,000 people in Italy and killed more than 5,000. Older people are at especially high risk for contracting the disease, and the risk of serious illness or death increases after the age of 80.

"I'm fine," she told the Italian newspaper. "They were good people who looked after me well, and now they'll send me home in a little while."

It wouldn’t hurt massive delivery companies ( Amazon/dhl/ups etc ) to offer up their delivery services to assist with food/essentials- they make enough money , time to give back.
if I can get enough supplies in, I’ll be glad to stay home totally.
If the cupboards are needing, I’ll be going out.

you do realise there are already swamped? this has been on the news all over

The case fatality rate is very misleading. If you're under 40, odds are, you'll be fine. If you're over 60 you've basically got 3 out of 4 chances of surviving. If you're over 80, don't get it, but 2 out of 3 may still survive.
The big gamblers are those with health problems and smokers. If you're both, and over 40 to boot, you're like me, flipping a coin.
But can't see many busts going down in the next couple of months.
if you survive but it leaves holes in your lungs like SARS..
looking at Italy, of those tested positive, 10% die. and yup the older you are, you're more at risk statistically. many more young are hospitalised with pneumonia

With any luck, this pandemic scenario has been played out 1000 times in movies and comity rooms, and is on target.

I mean, how would you play it? Load up the health service to capacity, then slam the brakes on, to keep it full capacity. It makes sense. Get all of us infected as quickly as possible, with us all being well as quickly as possible being the goal. We are a nation, and competition between nations is strong. We can't remain weak for long. Invasion is the number one cause of bad hair.

- Who would ever have thought that some bloke called 'Boris' would be telling us that we HAVE to stay locked behind our doors? -

- mind you - probably better that way for someone who's 60 in 2 days time - and has been a toker/smoker and midnight joker since he was 15 -

- Not as if we can just pull into Quik-Fit - and get a new set of lungs - wishful thinking -

I’m NW based and my wife was sent home to work after a woman and her husband contracted it when arriving back from Italy. The woman is in self isolation and recovering but her husband is in intensive care, both in their 40s.

Working in a key role I still have to go do my part, which is fine, but means going out daily and bringing the possibility of catching it back to my wife, which sucks!

People underestimating the virus and acting irresponsible is the major issue at the moment.

Keep you and your loved ones safe and act accordingly :)

- looking at the telly - the Tube is still rammed with people -

- Michael Gove on Piers Morgan's GMB - explaining what we can and cannot do - £30 fine for being caught out of home without a good reason - keeping 6ft away from anyone else - at least if you do - but looks like it ain't happening in many places - maybe it'll sink in soon? - I hope so -

* Moi - 2 kids and one wife - not going out here - maybe only to stretch legs for a walk along the Thames - maybe -

- Stay safe campers -

Hay guys,, Ive been getting my head into some paperwork on this,, the vac (without question) won't be ready until summer 2020!! FACT!! ,, so the race is on for therapeutic treatment in the meantime,,we also have an issue of this becoming a yearly lock down event with the ,diversity of the virus increasing throughout its new set of hosts,, , SO,, we need to knock this on the head quickly,, we need the mortality rate to be virtually unnoticeable,,,

I believe the trick is to stop the crust,, the dry crust symptoms that this virus forms in the respiratory system is too effective at clogging the surface that oxygen needs to be in contact with for us to maintain adequate oxygen saturated blood,, this is the issue with the pneumonia death aspect,, people need more than broad spectrum antibiotics and a c-pap to overcome the crust,,

https://mmrjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40779-020-00240-0

The evolution of the cov line is worrying,, it seems as tho the trick to being able to stop this might be in the transmission of the cell infection into a double pneumonia situation,, it's the crust that seems to form over the tissue that seems to be the issue most I believe if a nebuliser was filled with the correct acidic viscous component we might be looking at a decent therapeutic

Any thoughts,?

- Spent an hour ordering grub on the ASDA site - to find out that I can't get it delivered as normal - their website says naaaaa - all fully booked up till mid April - and then still no bookable slots - so fug it - will have to do a covert mission to the local store - possibly under cover of darkness - in about 2-3 weeks time - might have to involve a bus or a taxi in the operation - since over 200 squids worth of grub and stuff is kinda large for one to manage on ones own - will need a mask for that - but no masks to be had -

I just popped over to our local ASDA mate and most shelves back to normal. Even toilet roll and soap! No hand wash still though.

Couldn’t believe it when I saw the bog roll, I nearly cried.

All meat restocked and even some elusive paracetamol!

Was speaking earlier to a cousin aged 50 who's been released from hospital after catching it a couple of weeks ago.Says it was a scary shit for a few days and could barely breathe even with the ventilator.
Death toll is starting to pick up,was hoping it wouldn't hit like in Italy and Spain but looks to be going that way

50 doesn't seem very old for a hospital visit.

Essentially we are all shopping for prison food.
What is it. 18 B's to go?

I'm just not going out Doc - but strange thoughts are brought on by this whole virus element now firmly entrenched in our minds - and in the lives of an ever increasing population of people -

-Silly thoughts like - how to change a grow tent into an oxygen tent -

- and is it easy to order your own oxygen/respirator - or make one?

Im sorry you are not nearby. I have several N52 masks.
