Goodyear responded with this statement:
Fox 19 television reported that this image was originally posted by a Goodyear employee at the company’s plant in Topeka, Kansas, who said that the slide came from the company’s corporate office in Akron, Ohio. Goodyear’s corporate office disputed this in a statement, however, writing that this image was “not created or distributed by Goodyear corporate” and that it was not “part of a diversity training class.”

I’m confused: do you hunt for a source that you agree with completely? Do you disregard an otherwise solid source because something strikes you as false? Do you compare sources, and check out the differences? Compare *their* sources?
I get virtually nothing through “mainstream media” - by which I mean I pay little attention to them at all. I get information from everywhere: I check TownHall, I check Occupy Democrats, I check the major dailies, I follow several lawyers, doctors, engineers, scientists, gun enthusiasts, a variety of sources from the extreme right to what passes for the extreme left. I compare and contrast: knowing that one site has a pronounced nationalist/sovereign-citizen/alarmist spin or racial/social/regional/economic/ focus or activist/political/adversarial/analytical character helps me sift through the many versions and get somewhere.
Corroboration is key: a single source is by definition unreliable unless you can personally know the source to be unimpeachable; otherwise, somebody else needs to have the story or it’s not a story. A thing I’ve seen most notoriously on the so-called “right” (surely it could be found elsewhere - though I haven’t...) is ‘circular reference’ - where an opinion piece about “an item in the news” is gnawed on, conclusions presented; you check their source, and it’s an opinion piece by someone else, about the same “item in the news”...same tooth marks, same points pushed forward, same conclusions presented. You check *their* source...and the next round begins. Neal Boortz used to be famous -ish for that; Limbaugh’s “stack o’ stuff” the same. It’s REAL important you’re actually finding the story, and not just getting caught up in the round-robin of fake stories from nowhere.
Beware of sites (memes) that give you long, complicated URLs as “supporting links”: you won’t be able to click them, OR copy them - the ONLY way you’ll be able to verify them will be to write them down and type them in accurately (doable, but annoying). Then you have to read the article to actually make sure it’s talking about what your ‘source’ SAID it was about. Because I’m an old man and I have the time and the interest, I do this. Rarely (and possibly never) have I EVER found one of these links to be any sort of corroborating evidence, any relevant material to the original context - even links that get posted in our politically-charged threads go nowhere, or go to articles that don’t support the point of the post.
