The "Totally random stuff that serves a growroom purpose" thread

Something that always interests me, is the odd items that people find a use for in their growrooms, so lets see the random stuff that works, or that you think would work for you, .

I'll start it with these

Duct bug shields...... Thicker than stockings, 2 in a pack, cheaper than a similar product sold in growshops.

I love the idea of this thread! I love seeing how people cannibalize things for other purposes!

One that I have found that could be of use is "Dryer Vent Kits" finds you kits like this that seem to have several things you could use in a grow set up that would be cheaper than buying individually. Hell half the time just the ducting alone is that price.

I also rather like the idea of getting a PC fan controller and just using it to control some PC fans essentially without the computer basically. You could then have several small fans running to various points in your grow room, that you can easily move around and adjust the speed of. So one day you could have strong winds from the north, then tomorrow move the fans, and have mild winds from the south and southwest.

I ended up with some shower curtain rings (the cheap plastic things that hang from the bar - in my case bathmats were cheaper with the damn things) that I did not need. . . they are actually coming in handy in my grow tent for cable management. For instance I have one looped over a bar at the top of my tent, and all the cords going into the tend loop through the shower curtain ring so they are not on the floor. From there I have them hooked to other bars and such to keep them out of the way.

If you are a Velcro fan, I have found endless uses for these cheap ass things

It is nice to be able to adjust as needed, plus the colors can actually be useful. Use red on cords you never want to adjust or move. Blue on ones that it does not matter. You could have one color for one tester and one for the other.

Nice for getting air movement in the tent/closet grows, without blowing your plants around like a force 9 gale. You can get cheap Chinese ones on ebay. They're just a row of PC fans really but the Chinese ones are so cheap that it isn't worth the effort to cobble together some ghetto contraption, as much as I love ghetto contraptions.

At a restaurant supply store--
32 oz scoop: measure/scooping grow medium for transplanting

big spoon with flat bottom (chinese style): better stirrer than round bottomed spoons (especially molasses)

6 gallon white food service bucket (instead of 5 gallon bucket): since many of my liquid ingredients are 5ml per gallon and the increments of measuring spoons are 5ml, 7.5ml & 15ml...with a 5 gallon bucket I would need 25ml (5 x 5ml) requiring 2 spoons and 3 measures (1-15ml + 2-5ml)...whereas with a 6 gallon bucket I need 30 ml (6 x 5ml) requiring 1 spoon and 2 measures (2-15ml). I can brew 5 gallons of tea in a 6 gallon bucket...instead of 4 gallons, and...white food service containers are easier to keep clean and have zero plastic/rubber smell (unlike Home Depot 5 gal buckets).
(no pic)

12 quart Cambro polycarbonate food storage containers: bud curing with ZERO odor...lids will seal it almost "air tight".

6 bottle wine cooler: for storing "temperature sensitive" liquids at a constant 65 degrees...my indoor garden is within my garage and temps can hit above 90--which is no bueno for enzymes, liquid kelp, and most liquid nutes/ferts (Canna's boost, rhizotonic, etc). I buy most of my liquids in 1 & 2.5 gallon jugs (which are stored inside the house in a closet on a stone floor) and use smaller bottles for my gardening...which fit nicely inside the small wine cooler.

And...Harbor Freight has a $20 Low Pressure Low Velocity paint sprayer that is super efficient for foliar spraying compared to hand pump sprayers. Where I would use 1 gallon of liquid to foliar spray with a hand pump sprayer I now use 32oz ($aving$)--less waste/overspray and greater leaf canopy coverage (just like painting). Air compressor is required, but a small ones will work since 25 PSI is all that is needed.

Timesaver tip: 1ml of molasses weighs about 1.4 grams, so instead of measuring 15ml of molasses with a spoon (and then swish the spoon in the water until all the Mo is gone) weigh 21 grams of Mo instead...I use a standard postal scale and 1/2 gallon water pitcher--starting with about 16 oz of water, zero the tare weight, then add Mo until I see 126 grams for 6 gallons and stir with the flat bottom spoon, add more water to clean out the pitcher. Easy-schmeezy!

Cheers!
