Represent son. We holding it down in kildonan park. Medman is my homie in real life. He’s a real G

Love it!
I met him once quickly at a weed convention (LIFT Toronto) pre-COVID!

Didn't have much to say at the time other than hello! but I certainly have a gigantic newfound appreciation now that I know he also appreciates & loves (and is doing the actual WORK!) to resurrect this badly forgotten piece of Cannabis history

Nice to meet you eastcoastjoe!!

Hey dude

Whats good? Always great to connect with fellows I've actually met in person

It's nice you have 4 plants to play around with in ontario. God knows it's the best thing that came out of legalization

"Skunk" weed in the 70s was a term for several aromatic weed varieties, like people might use "dank" to describe heavy indica stone weed. Slang basically. As the aromatic varieties slowly disappeared through bad breeding practices, people missed it. Then someone decided to capitalize on it by creating a mythology that it was one particular strain... and they had it. Why someone isnt trying to capitalize on "Dank#1" is beyond me.

the FBI destroyed it

from what i hear, growers destroyed it.

well, i guess it's the gubment's fault, so we can say the fbi did it, haha... but how i've heard it said from old heads is that the stuff was just too much of a security risk, and if it wasn't pushed SUPER underground, then it was just slowly genocided... and now everyone and their mom regrets doing so.

i do know skunkman sam said that he himself did that very thing to his skunk line (got rid of rks phenos), but i've heard it from other people, as well. skunkVA (of chem 91 fame) talks about a guy in virginia that would hunt skunks just to bring them to his neigborhood dead to cover up the smell of his super skunks. that sounds far fetched, but who tf knows haha

This is true.

But missing some data

There was a clone only that that went around far and wide for 2 decades or selfed versions of it

So that is the one skunk that captured the hearts and minds of millions

These bad breeding practices are how we got here. Chemically induced hermaphroditism to make GMO feminized seeds. One cant trust those seeds.

But the parents strains are still in the hands of a few caretakers. Acapulco, columbian, afghani. I think anyone serious would start over with these parents and make fire, rather than nurse along whatever bombed out remains are still passed around. Am I missing something?

The parent strains are way more valuable than the hybrid. The hybrid cant produce true F1s which is where the exhaggeration/vigor shows up to discover these unique hybrid phenotypes in the first place. That response doesn't happen when crossing polyhybrids or amalgamations. People are looking with their heads on backwards.

And I'm not convinced skunky weed was one strain or one strain of the aromatic weed of that time which survived. I can see some kid claiming that to look cool, and as the decades passed, it probably happened more than once. Somewhere, someone probably believed it.

People didnt like to buy that strong smelling weed because of prohibition, and nobody wants to get caught and be prosecuted. I've seen skunky weed turned down many times for just the smell you cant hide. It would aggravate sellers. That had to be a part of its decline also. Enter NL to go on dominate as northern lights did, with hardly any smell on number 5 for stealth growing and more discreet use.

When people said, I want that old skunk again. That stuff that made your eyes like slits. They arent talking about a strain, but but a whole range of quality that is completely absent today. Because of marketing schemes to sell junk genetics to a customer base of the unaware.

And then of course comes the chorus of confused parrots asking for strains. Skunk, skunk#1, skunk#2 sweetskunk, cherryskunk, skunk cookies. My God.

I must have missed the boat on this one. I literally never heard of Roadkill Skunk until just a few years ago when it became the internet sensation it is now. Funny thing is, if I could care less I would. LMFO
