The perfekt free Ebb&Flow

Hi Guys
Just have to share this with you. I bet you could get this stuff for free too. All this costed me was 500gr. of plain Coffee to the factory's staff room.
Ok - let's have a small look first;
Know these?

This is a 1 m3 container for sugar (glucose) aprox 100x120xsomething high(doesn't matter - we're gonna cut it)

I got this for a bag of regular coffee at a bread factory. They use the sugar for baking the breads, and these are what the sugar arrives in. So the material(some plastic) is good for eatable stuff. There's no refund for them for the empty containers, so they just throw them away or sell them cheaply to privates for rain water collectors. You'll probably be able to get these from a place just near you :woohoo:

nice 2" outlet with a blue vent(don't know if that's the word but it switches the water off, hehe)

The outlet is in a deeper place than bottom of container - makes ALL water run completely out after each drain.

But as said, we're gonna cut it all a bit

Just let me know if this is a threat you wanna see more of, and i'll show you, how we're gonna make 2 of these containers: 2 complete ebb&flow systems with 2 big reservoirs and 2 trays right on top of each other, so doesn't take much room (120x100cm). Maybe you'll even enjoy seing me find a plant of choice to test grow in these babies.
Have fun guys - in know i have.... i really have :woohoo:

Hi Neilspotshop. Sorry - that was just too little interest. I'm not gonna update this thread. Guess people have seen enough of this stuff, or just not find this one interesting. NP. If you really wanna see the buildup, just go to my white widow grow. There'll be some pictures of the setup once i get the Jack H in there in a month and a half. Have fun so long
Goodspeed to all you happy growers!

Excellent idea, with a $20-80 dollar pump, depending on how fast you want to flood you got better than a 3'x3' table I'll look into that once I have more room. One other thing, I suggest you look into getting something to keep the roots out of the leftover water in the trays until the plants get little larger I suggest Eggcrate Louvers for fluoroscent lights looks like:

Sold in the lighting dept at Lowe's and HD... and also be sure to get some Fusion Spray Paint or duct tape to cover the tray sides from light. My mother tray was clear and even with a good canopy, until I covered it with Duct Tape I had algae problems.

Thanks guys

Yes, these will definately be available many places-

The containers have a perfect drain in the bottom as they are, and will COMPLETELY empty when in level. I tested this allready so the things from lamps shouldn't be necessary.

Do I need special paint? I was thinking of just painting them black with regular paint. Won't this be light proof?

I'm starting my Jack Herer seeds up too in a couple of days. Would it be a waste of good Jack Herer space to also grow White Widows? I mean... is Jack sooo much better that it would be silly not to grow him allover?

When should these, 26days old from seed White Widow, be cloned and put to flower?

Hay Mate,
intresting thread,id like to see it documented on here as you go.
for paint, you can buy plastic paint at most home depo type shops,i think it mostly coes in spray cans.
or you coupld consider ducting tape and black heavy plastic.
Kind regards,Ft

Bend the Widows over and tie down. When the side shoots hit 1.5-2" take cuttings. You've seen my thread in the link in my sig (you fixed the pic in fact) if you need help making bonsai moms they provide 6-25 clones/ week depending on how I feed them. Even if not to keep as a mom if you wanted to SOG that setup, bending the plant like my moms, makes many side shoots. Especially if you're using HID lamps. I get my amount of cuttings from 4 3 foot 30W fluoros. Hit me up if you need any advice.

Thanks guys for advice

I'll go buy black plastic paint for the trays.

As to the cuttings i figured that if i waited a week or so, and took the top as a clone for the new mothers and then flowered the original 6 plants. Wouldnt i get nice bushy plants. Then i have about 2 months growing the new clones big enough to harvest enough clones from each to grow a sog with whatever plant i find best. Wouldn't that turn out fine too?
by the way right now i'm actually smoking my Northern Lights#5xHaze male flowers. He's actually not bad at all. (I had one seed left that i grow under bad conditions this summer) I didn't know if male of female, so i nursed it all summer and i got balls. I'm saving him for some cross some time.

I highly suggest you take more than one clone from each healthy plant. Some people have lost that special strain by not backing up the clone with others or flowering before clone had roots and plant dies in reveg (if tried). BTW good luck w/ the Jack Herer I started my last nine beans last night, the others i tried died in veg but I'm pretty sure it's an old pack.

Hi You're not Crazy.
hehe, don't know if i should make these 2 threads into 1. We can't keep meeting like this.. :chin:

I just tied the highest 5-6 plants down. You were right. No problem at all. And I can see how this will make some good cuttings pop out from the bottom..

Im just inside for a cup of coffee now. It's getting cold outside, brrrrrr :fsu:
I think i'm a tropical strain - hate these cold months :badday:

At least now i have my little stressfree room with tropical sun now. Love it. I can just sit out there watching the plants grow for several hours, and get into some kind of meditation state. Must be very healthy :woohoo:

I'll be back later with some pictures of the day's work

Okay - update on the trays:
I worked on the trays most of the day, but still needs some more black paint to make the trays light proof.
Here's the entrance to my room by the way

The container i going to be tray and reservoir. (the plastic tends to get a bit alive when cut, but that's why its going into the alusetup)

I cut off this at 35cm. That's going to be reservoir, so i put some silicone inside the black lid, and screw it on nice and tight.

The reservoir is going down here, just under where the tray is. The tray is cut at 23cm.

These things stable like beer kegs, so this is a top, and the other part is the bottom of the original construction of the alu, so they fit together perfectly. notice how i removed some alu from bottom, so reservoir can be pulled out and work with the water and pumps.
This picture is before removing the alu from front, so working with reservoir gets easy

Don't you think these babies will love the new home?

Let me hear your tips for improvement, or just what u think about the free trays.
Peace

Hey Looking good bro, I'm having the morning smoke and coffee too. About the trays looks about the best bang for your buck, you saved @ $300/ setup from store bought trays and rez. If/when I get a house, I'm going to look into in vesting in one of these. You could set up aircooled light/ballast 600/1000W per tray for @ $500 or less if you have some ballasts hoods etc still the money saved for a strudy setup with stand is well worth going into a few commercial bakeries for.

Yes indeed. I allready have a 600w hps ready for one tray, and figure it'll do for my widows. I so much more space in the flowering room with these, because of that reservoir taking no space at all. Can't wait to get it finished. Will take a couple of days though. They need that paintjob, and then some drying.
I just trained my plants further. Saw on another thread how i could imagine the plants turining out with your tecnique, so i tied them down just a bit further, but can se how branchy it will turn out with earlier start on training! Tx for the nice advice!
