Best part about having a trade was the ability to do work off the books. Keeping what I earned instead of paying for people and corporations living off the taxpayers tit.

Maybe I'm dense, but then again maybe I am dense...? BUT
Property taxes went up 50% last year. Now it's $3k/yr!
Around these parts the population has been expanding from California immigration. New home builds have steadily risen over the last few years.
What I don't 'get' is how is it property taxes have to increase when there are more homes to tax?
It would seem the more homes built means they also are taxed at the 'usual' rate thus offsetting the cost of services.
They must be awash in revenue!

I was paying $7k a year property tax in NJ 5 years ago on a 1100 sq ft cape cod built in the 50's.
Now I'm paying $1200 for 1700 sq ft rancher.
