As an engineering student, I memorized one number that can easily be used when determining the weight of water or any other liquid.

That number is 0.0361 lb/in3, which is the weight of one cubic inch of water in pounds.

There are 231 cubic inches per gallon, so one gallon water would be 231 X 0.0361 = 8.3391 lbs

Or one cubic inch on any other liquid is 0.0361 X the Specific Gravity of that liquid.

A gallon of any other liquid would weigh 8.3391 lbs X the Specific Gravity of that liquid.

Always used 8.2 for gallons. worked just fine
