True but all the minerals/elements they mine for use in manufacturing batteries for EV's the've been doing for years before EV's were really a thing on the market and they'll likely continue those samme mining practices even if all EV production were halted. So it's kind of misleading to say that because the process of making them is bad for the environment they're just as bad as other vehicles. Im sure there are aspects of ICE car manufature that is bad for the environment as well. The real point of value to the environment isn't the manufacturing but the pollution if any when it's being used.
I think manufacturing is perhaps where more pollution comes from than the use so the source is given a pass at the expense of the consumer.. I don't know if it will make for less pollution as the oil removal is already in place and it's old hat, except for tar sands a lot less land is uplifted and destroyed. But then I also think all homes should be made of plastic ,they would last forever and the more trees left in the ground the better because trees are the most important plant. There should be a choice and not a mandate and as time goes maybe more and more will go electric as the grid and technology meet the demand and ease into it. The mandate just segregates and no real advancement is possible.Right now if everyone did go EV the country would collapse and we would be literally in the dark. It's like building a house with no foundation. From what I've heard, none of the problems other manufacturers have as far as drawbacks apply to Tesla's except they have tended to be the more expensive option. They have good range with some bing as high as 600+ miles I think Tesla does also charge extra for the at home charging set up but given that maintenance is so much cheaper I think that offsets the cost of the home charging system and the convenience of charging at home makes it well worth it in my opinion. For the most part the range is sufficient for most use and they're starting to get the charging times fast enough that it's not much worse then the time it takes at the pump. The real problem with EV's is that the infrastructure to support the use of them is still to far and few between if they expect widespreadd adoption of EV use. Tesla has been pretty good about building a decent infrastruture (charging stations) for EV's but on company can only do just so much. It's supposed to be getting better in the near future, the infrastructure bill a from a few years ago had a good chunk of money for building charging stations across the country
I think EV is probably fine for city folks who don't have long drives or need a work vehicle, but I live in the sticks in Canada and tow and haul ,I can't spend all day charging or having to buy 2 EV's so I have one available. It gets pretty cold up here and just to heat it would dig into the range. I read a road test on the lightning and it got 85 mile range towing 3500 lbs, that's useless for me. I can't stop every 85 miles and charge, even having to stop and charge at all is not doable.

Lets be friends. We have different political views but we can still peacefully co-exist.
I never said we couldn't. I've tried to keep my political opinions to myself to kep this thread peacful by not riling up those who might disagree with them. I'm just saying everyone should do the same. I would make such a request of anyone, even those that I call friends. As the saying goes, "What is good for the goose is good for the gander." Personally I could play that in either the pro political discussion or the anti political discussion direction but if the purpose is for the sake of peace in the thread it should be a level playng field. Everyone is defensive about their political beliefs. it irritates me just as much as it irritates you when i see people saying things that I disagree strongly with based on my political beliefs.

It's a cart before the horse thing.

In Philadelphia Amazon bought 90 Rivian Vans. They contacted Philadelphia electric about putting in a charging station. They were laughed at. The grid can't handle it. So Amazon had to buy 5 huge diesel generators.

Like you said EV's are great for short commutes if you live in the city or suburbs. However they are discovering they might need to update the electric codes pertaining to how the chargers are wired in to homes.

Electric school buses are a fail, Windmills are a huge fail, solar farms have been ripped to shreds by tornados or smashed to bits by hail.

DIY solar is great for those who want to be off grid or the cost of running grid power to the property is prohibitive.

I got to admit I do NOT care for mules at all and starting to feel the same about horses.
The only animal that I hated on the farm was the mule. A horsie has the brain of a nice dog. He can love you.

A mule has a lizard brain. At any time he can decide you are the enemy

That tire question was cool...i would think the added torque from instant response electric motors does eat tires faster
I watched a video on youtube about it not too long ago from a fairly large producer of automobile providers. T\I forget the name of the company but they were basically making the case that because of what it costs to make them it's very difficut to make them competitive in terms of performance, durability and cost compared to tires designed for ICE powered vehicles.

Good point. Me and Mrs Pute could easily get by with an EV. We live in the city and rarely go anywhere anymore. But, I don't like the way it's being forced on us. Plus I don't like the fact that the Gov't is subsidizing the selling to the public......it's gonna backfire wait and wee. When all those leases expire in two years there is going to be a huge amount of them on the market at the same time which means somebody is gonna take a big bath.

I don't know what or how the residual was determined but the market value is gonna end up being way less that the residual value....wondering who is gonna have to bite the bullet....the govt or the lenders or even maybe the selling manufacture. Supply vs demand determines the value of anything.

"Does undercoating apply for EV vehicles?" and if it was ,could it be bundled with the financing as well as the warranty, was asked among the crowd.

Wait until the old folks on medicare get the huge premium increase. Biden spent the medicare money on those EV tax credits. The rate increase should have kicked in August. But they robbed peter to pay paul in order to hide the increase until after the election. It kicks in 1/1/25 as i understand it.

That means folks Social Security checks will decrease.
I heard it's only going to go up by a little more then $10. Modt people won't notice that because they also get the yearly COLA which is usually a bit more or at least makes it a wash as far as what they take home. Plus these days a lot of seniors are on Medicare advantage plans many of which will give you back all or most of the premium amount deducted from your check, at least that's what all the commercial claim that play as often as campaogn commercials during election year.
