If you watch the whole video they show sub panel install by electrician and that passed inspection, that melted under normal use.

The problem is related to the duty cycles of anything on that circuit. Residential breakers and load centers are not designed for the stress of EV charging.

Personally I'd pull the breaker on that circuit and inspect it.
I did watch the whole video and at your suggestion checked my breakers and Levitron 50A plug and found them pristine after nine years of use.

I put in a standard Square D 80% breaker, but I oversized the breaker and wire size 25% of the continuous load, per NEC.

PS: As I recall they define continuous as 3 hours or longer and a full charge on our EV is only about four hours but most of the running around in town doesn't run the battery down that much, so duty cycle is usually less than two hours.

It's a lie Doober, have you ever seen an open pit battery mine or the labor used? Google it some time,it's just investors making a mint by opening their own market.

Haven't been able to keep up too much due to some crazy workload that got dumped. Oh well...It's Christmas !!!
I earnestly hope and trust that Putembk and Boo's surgeries went well today. Rest, relax, and grow stronger now.

Yes, we have a Ford EV for around town and a standard Jeep GCL for hauling, bad weather, and trips out of town.

We love it for its purpose, and we are able to get by with it only because we also have the Jeep. We also would not be owning one at the exorbitant new prices they are charging for them now.

I bought the 2013 Focus EV in 2016 when it was turned in from a lease for the value of the replacement batteries at the time, or $12K. Fuel cost is about 25% and maintenance in 9 years, besides tire replacement has been $695 for a fried horn harness. It still has the original brake pads because most of the braking is dynamic to recharge the battery.

No waiting in line at the service stations or engine oil and transmission oil changing stations, or radiator flushes, because it doesn't have any.

The real test will be how long the batteries last. They estimated 100K when we bought the car and we have about 55K on it, but we don't drive 10K per year either and batteries are also affected by age.

As far as the environment, as has been noted, there is environmental damage mining for the rare earths used in the batteries. I would like to see an unbiased comparison of that damage vis a vis exploration, drilling, transporting, and refining crude oil, as well as the smog produced burning it.

There is currently as much as a $7,500 rebate on some electric vehicles from the and subsidized by the government….at the end of the day the American taxpayer foots the bill.

On January 20th that will go poof like a fart in the wind. Better get yours NOW DB before it goes boom!

Mom has a 2008 Focus with 200k. Still chugging along

I have a camry hybrid and they warranty the battery for 10 years. I bought it because it was a left over and was cheaper than the gasoline version. It does get great mileage and I like it a lot but I still prefer my truck. I think they should have went to hybrid accross the board and continued to make the engines smaller as technology advances and maybe the engines could be the size of a loaf of bread in time. I need a truck so a pure ev truck wouldn't work for me because I need range and I use it all the time. Maybe one day I'll get one but at this point I simply don't trust the government and if they recommend it ,I'm skeptical.

The F150 lightning starts at 63k in Canada for the entry model and 115k loaded,plus we pay 13%TAX and whatever fees they hide plus the charging set up is extra. I can't afford that and buying a used one probably isn't wise.

Battery technology is growing geometrically, and hydrogen technology is also making inroads, but the prices for new EV's are absurd.

I read the original General Motors EV study on their test vehicles, and they determined that they were not profitable because there was only the initial build income without the repair parts income. Looks like they are trying to get their money up front.

You mentioned hydrogen and they are just in the midst of building a plant down the road from where I work. I wonder how dangerous it is if you get into an accident,I'm thinking Hindenburg,but what do I know? I think Bush tried this when he was president.

It is certainly a factor, though we drive around in cars with tanks of highly flammable gasoline or propane tanks.

You know it’s funny over the past few years I have had to start taking medications…. I used to hate taking meds now I depend on them..
I hate them too, I have to take 2 bp pills ,other than that I rarely take any ,Ibuprofin once in a while to take the edge off but as infrequent as possible
