I didn't have to worry about that, the apple tree in my grandma's yard had been around for quite a long time and was fairly large. It produced significantly more fruit then I could ever eat in pies and/or dumplings. Plus my grandma lived in a fairly respectful neighborhood and people just didn't go into other people's yards and help themselves to whatever was growing there. They would ask first if they wanted anything and my grandma would usually comply unless for some reason she didn't like the person, which was almost never the case. The apples in her yard grew abundtly and there was more then enough to share. Another thing my grandma would make from the apples was her own homemade apple sauce which she would jar up and preserve. It too was delicious but my fond memories focused just on her apple pies and dumplings.Grew up with 2 apple trees and I would fuk somebody up for picking an apple.
My Mother made the best apple pie with crisco and one good apple thrown was one less for pie.
I didnt like that and used violence to discourage anyone having that idea
