I have seen bigger mushrooms in the woods that an app I have said was chicken if the woods. These were small, the biggest being maybe 3/4”. Good info

These mushrooms grow while living.
You can cut them off the tree and if the season permits they'll grow back.
Always remember leave some on the tree. Be conservative.
Generally anything coming from a hardwood like oak or birch are consumable.
