My Father RIP worked for LIRR part time and the end of the line was Port Jefferson.
He delivered ice for them and I as a kid would go with him. He would take an idling train drive it 50 feet one way and back. Never let me near the horn!
My daddy RIP, was a Coal inspector and worked on coal trains everyday. He started his job jumping from car to car collecting samples for inspection. Later he became an inspector then when technology took over, it was way too much stress for him learning the computers. I remember going to his work and seeing the coal trains.

I'm too old to keep up. Sorry Arb.

OK, I'm on the nearer side of 50 than I am 60, so does that still make me old? Or just sad, because I've been on these canna forums now for over 20 years?

Here are some funky LEDs to show I've kept up with the times.

this is exactly what my pops did in the 50’s when I was growing up…my sister and family lived in Milford and we lived near Delta Utah

we moved up and down the line and lived in several section houses between Delta and Milford

fun times for kids growing up on the railroad , we got rides all the time on the putt putt cars…

but yeah , my pops was a gandy dancer on the Union Pacific railroad

the landscape is what I remember as a kid and it looks about the same here on the high plains of Colorado.

morning everybody, happy new years eve. i rebuilt wrecked train cars mostly coal cars. had a good time with a company that took care of us. got in close with the owner, he was a navy reserve officer that was stationed on my ship. he would get me for all the odd jobs, was going to help me get a license to operate the locomotive on the b/n rails. they was going to start a new company for dumping the coal trains, failed a drug test that was the end of that.

geebus, it’s in the high 40s outside this morning which is not something I’m going to deal with. I find myself huddled around the fireplace eating breakfast once again but the dogs are outside. Just enjoying the weather. I need to do some power cooking today stock up the larder.

Most of the trains through our town when I was a kid were steam and I can remember listening to them start up pulling a train, lose traction, regain it and continue to accelerate.

In my early thirties I helped rebuild the 1976 bicentennial Freedom Train, 4-8-4 Daylighter, Number 4449. I helped getting the superheater tubes return bends cast and with pressure testing the boiler.

New Year’s Eve we usually stay home.
‘not the best choice being out on a crowded night with drunk drivers or overzealous drinkers for me. We do our drinking out in the daylight. We don’t usually get drunk well at least the one driving doesn’t. We take turns on that. If we go out at night, we take an Uber which is really popular here. The last two that we road in said it was ok to smoke pot but no cigs. The back filled up quick with smoke all of a sudden…

I plan on heading over to Lesso ‘s later this afternoon for a New Year’s visit but I can assure you I will be home before the sunsets. The bridge I have to take to get to where he lives is known for head on crashes and that’s not something I care to expose myself… I usually have the dogs in the backseat and I’m even more cautious when I have them with me… same here, Dogster, I don’t drink at all, and do not tolerate people on my property doing such… Dutch has a habit of growling people that are inebriated because he doesn’t like their sloppiness… One of my friends, who has now drank himself to death, used to come over, and when he would pet Dutch, he would slap him on the head instead of petting him. When I told him to leave my home he was quite surprised because I guess no one ever called him out for being a lush…
