It's the same in Canada, not that I get out much but I do read letters people write into their local newspapers. Many are very upset with condition of their cities downtowns. Too much crime, dirty, drug addiction and business owners are leaving. The small city near me it's crime rates are high
This is probably over simplifying the problem but if I had to sum it up I would say it's because too many politicians try to solve the problems of their cities by putting a bandaid on it rather then rolling their sleeves up and try to come up with a more permanent solution. They seek solutions that appease the most people while simultanously displeasing the least amount of voters. Then they hope things won't get much worse until after they've retired from office.

I read somewhere on the Internet that a certain political party in this country has intentions of banning people with dual passports. You can have an American passport, but if you get one from another country, they have a problem with that… things seem to be getting quite dicey around the world, you can only put so much air in the balloon before it pops…

FWIW I don't think it was just your post that bothered him but rather the entire collection of posts on politics. Some pople are so turned off by what discussing politics in a group of otherwise friendly people can do to that group, that they wish for a place where they can go where nobody discusses the topic. At least that's how I'm choosing to interpret his post.
Respect.....but you have to have thick skin to survive on these foums. We are a melting pot of people all over the planet and so far nobody's been killed.

Most homeless want to be homeless. I have a friend....worked for me for 20 years and his son is homeless. He won't go into a shelter because they have rules. They like their lifestyle......hard to believe but it's true in many cases.
I can verify that has a lot of truth to it, for a while when I was younger, I did some volunteer work with a church that did it's best to help he homeless out. Part of that work involved trying to get to know the homeless to see if we could help them with ideas to improve their situations and many of them just wished they could be left alone to do whatever they wanted. I remember one guy a black man who was a vet and in his 80's, between his VA check and his Social Security he was bringing in around $2000 per month in the early to mid 90's. He also had family in town that were willing and able to give him his own private room and live with them but they had rules that he didn't like. Mainly to not drink because he was one of those nasty drunks. He was content to stay on the streets with a group of other homeless he thought of as friends who would help him spend all his money when it came in at the beginning of the month and then they would all go their seperate ways when the money was gone. It was really kind of sad because he could have lived a much better, more comfortable life if he would just be willing to make some relatively small changes to his habits.

from everything ive heard, cuba is actually a very nice place
yes, they are poor, but they are educated poor
cuba has a literacy rate over 99%
look at how clean the streets are? where are the bums
/i live on one of the most expensive cities in the us (san diego) and its overrun with bums
plus their food is good
No private ownership, rationed food, in Cuba.Sixty six years after Castro’s promise, no less than 7.4 million Cubans (67% of the population) do not have a “decent home”. And worst of all, the “revolution” constantly evicts poor families from their precarious homes, which are flattened. The housing crisis is endemic and as severe or more than that of Haiti. The politicians drive new expensive cars while most of the population can't afford any car and the ones that do have a car own 60 year old ones and can't get parts.
It's a nice place if you don't have to live there. Here's a clip before communism destroyed peoples lives.

That seems to be about the way it goes, it's all about the voting cycles. Which is part of the problem as you say.

I agree but I still try to see things from the other perspective as best I can. At least in threads like this one where politics isn't the main focus. Now in the threads that are mainly for politics you better just stay away if you get easily triggered.

Dual citizenship should exclude anyone from political office but many politicians throughout the spectrum of ideologies are dual citizens. This is one reason our taxes fund the rest of the world so other countries can provide ‘free’ healthcare and higher education. Our taxes are majority funding the UN and NATO(likely the WHO as well but I am not informed about that)…
