I usually fill my jugs with water and let them sit for the next day. My water from the tap is always cold.

Ive read 17 pages of this thread, and used the search function as well.I can't find the answer to my question...What about re-using the substrate in Hempy Buckets?..Can you do this? ..Can you flush it out and re-use it like soil? If so how many times before you need to replace it? ...thanks!!

this is why i use all perlite hempies. just get a big garbage can and drill a few holes in the bottom and give a good soak under the shower. of course you lose a little each time but i have seen no adverse reaction. and I have not throw any perlite out in 2 years except for the stuff to tangled in the roots. curious if people reuse other substrates. I would like to try some other mixes but I do not want to throw things out if I do not have too. all perlite is just too easy.

thanks bobman and warped ...I will try a all perlite Hempy as a experiment and compare to my soil pots ..Thanks for the idea...

Nice set up SOG. Now you got a bigger tent you gonna grow in bigger buckets?

Sorry I didn't get back to ya sooner man, I got distracted and then just plain forgot.

Anyway, that question is still to be answered, my original plan was for a vertical stadium SOG but the growth rate has been so vigorous i'm considering other options, maybe 2 donuts with the inner donut 4 weeks behind and the outer donut harvested every 4 weeks.

I figure I ought to try a few things before I decide, lol.

Peace, SOG

High man, i'm using coco and i'm pretty sure it's reusable, maybe not perpetually, but definitely for a few runs.

Reach out to gaiusmarius, he's the moderator of the coco forum and i'm sure he'll have specifics.

I'd try to answer myself but i'm still a coco noob so I have no experience yet to speak from, better you get advice from an authority.

Peace, SOG

i used to reuse perlite but after a couple years it seemed to start affecting my yields imo.maybe with a flushing agent it'd be ok

My bucket's medium is 3:1 perl/verm. I've been using the same stuff for almost a year. I re-use and "top up" as need be. I don't rinse. After harvest, just get the rootball and shake off the excess in a rubble sack and re-use.

During the last two weeks of 12/12 I flush with just ph'd water, so this is probably why I don't feel the need to rinse, but you can rinse if you want.

did not think you could reuse the vermiculite but i guess there is no reason not too. does it keep wicking the same? vermiculite always looks so beat up after its used. one thing i do not like about the all perlite hempies is that the top few inches dry out fast and I may or may not be getting an excess of root hardening. I have read root hardening can effect nutrient uptake and yield. From my research it seems that if you grow in all perlite you can really increase things if you top feed more often. i am going to try to automate the whole thing and add some sort of drip ring and water a little each day and try to keep the top layer more wet. there is some good info in the passive plant killer thread.

had i read this earlier in the morning, I would have taken a shot when i was in the garden. i will be back in there early monday morning and will take a shot of some things we've got going at the moment.
to the earlier post....yes, i reuse my perlite/vermiculite....once the plant is harvested the roots are removed and the medium is flushed with gallons of water then dried and flushed again before it is reused. there are 3 20g rubbermaid totes that hold each phase. I can harvest 5 plants at a time (5g ea) and am able to flush out the medium and have some available for use as well. we do occasionally add perlite to the mix more so than vermiculite, and are in the process of adding hydroton to the mix for added stability, but it will probably increase the amount of flushing and cleaning once the medium has been used, but hopefully the added stability to the plants will increase bud structure and overall yield. If so, then all the added cleanup will be worth it.

High guys, like I said i'm still a coco noob so I went looking for an answer and this is what I came up with.

re-using coco

I haven't read it yet but it looks like a good place to start.

Now, heres a few pics, not monsters but pretty good ok for my first hempy experience.

A couple White Rhinos...

And here are a few crosses I made last winter.

Happy Brother x Chocolate Chunk x AK47

ChemD x AK47...if you look close you can see the stump of the original top that I had to trim off after it grew into the 400CMH in my cab and burned up.

And the root-ball of a 2 week old Pure Kush x AK47 clone just before up-potting.

Anyway, i'll have some bud shots next week.

Peace, SOG
