They could grow a whole new you if you could afford it. The only problem would be moving in lol. They can grow anything they like now, its just a lot cheaper to engineer animals like pigs to have more human generic organs and then bombard you with anti rejection drugs when they put animal organs into you instead. That way they grow new organs in farm yards rather than expensive labs requiring lots of staff for each organ. They have machines that can assemble any combination of ATGC's they want. Then provinding the combination is viable, it grows when stimulated in the right way.
they can clone you but they cant just clone you a heart. they could clone you and then take the heart out after the clone was mature but they cant make a heart alone, i know this for a fact, because i have seen the reasearch that they are working on so that they can create organs from an individuals DNA.

Ok, so perhaps genetic engineering is the next step. I still personally think robotics are the way of the future due to the fact that they can go above and beyond human ability - for example you could have thermal, x-ray and regular vision with robotic eyes, but perfect human eyes will only give you regular vision.

Maybe genetic engineering will be the next wave and then move into robotics.

It's still interesting to think that we could create people that would never die... what would that mean for the future? Would we even do it if we had the capability?
robotics is inferior to genetic manipulation. sure the perfect human eye cant see xray and infrared but a genetaically engineeredeye possibly could. to have enough knoweldge of protein synthesis from DNA is an amazing thing. you could potentially make a person into anything. robotic systems are not self sustaining either parts break down and need to be replaced where as biological systems to a certain level can repair themselves... hell given proper engineering they may never break down. here is how i see our evolution when it comes to human augmentation, robotics then nano tech, then genetics.

"i've been thinking of getting metal legs, its a risky operation, but it'll be worth it"
-grandmas boy.

anyway.. sadly most technological evolution comes from the military and its development.
-penecillin
-increased variety and dependablitly of cars, planes, trucks
-radar
-weapons
-communications
-gps
-satelites
-satelite guidance
-plenty more in the future.
-the military has even made a blood substitute for battlefield conditions.. they drained mice of all blood and replaced it with the substitute.. and the mice were fine.

computer capability doubles or triples or something every 18 months.. researchers are developing robotic limbs for amputees and such, it's only a matter of time before they can stuff a brain into a metallic body and make it run. its only a matter of converting your bio-chemical signals into electronic ones.

but as of now bio-engineering is the new evolution, who wants to wait thousands of years to wait for a genetic mutation when one can be created in a laboratory..

from GM foods to GM kids (parents now have the choice of what kind of eyes/hair/whatever their kids have, even sex i think).. it's pretty scary actually what humans can do to benefit and destroy themselves at the same time.

Cymeks...Butlerian Jihad. Sorry, I just really love the book, and it has some cool things in it that would be damn kick ass if they happened.

its already happened man. there was a neuroscientist who had a chip implanted in his arm and plans to have one put into his brain. with the chip in his arm he was able to have radar sent directly into his brain and control a computer with his mind (the cursor anyway). with the radar thing he said it wa slike nothing you can imagine like having a new sense. he was able to sense when things approached him despite being blindfolded.

there was also a parapalegic that had the surgery to put a chip in his brain and hes able to surf the net with his mind though its not an exact science. if i whereparalyzed from the neck down being able to get on the net and surf byself would be a fucking God send. they hope that eventually they will be able to bypass the central nervous system in individuals who are paralyzed but still have structuraly sound bodies. a signal will be sent from a chip in their brain reading activit to electrodes in the muscle tissue causing activation.

Wow thats incredible... I'm pretty grateful to live in this period of time... i'm very interested to see what happens over the next couple decades..

that is assuming that we don't all die from a nuclear war

Artificial heart was already installed in 2000. News are around just do a search: mechanical heart.
Artificial limbs are almost working. Were living quite fascinating times.

From Wiki: The AbioMed company of Danvers, Massachusetts produced the AbioCor device, which on September 6, 2006 became the first fully implantable artificial heart to be approved, albeit under Humanitarian Use Device rules.

the contention was them making a heart from your DNA ie growing one specefically for your body.

They can certainly do your liver, I would have imagined that they would have found the section of the dna chain that codes for heart by now. And thats all they need.

lol do u think they can just grow it in a petri dish. i have seen research where they are using 3d printers that lay down proteins so far they have made a fully functional heart valve, this i have seen.

Politicians have an advantage in this, as their head and ass are already interchangeable.
