Your right. NL shouldn't be discounted. The trait may come from either one or both.NL5 genetics also have variegated leaves. some plants have it quite badly
I ran over 250 old NL lines. 3 versions off the '84, high and lonesome 91 NL5 NL2 . I never had variegation or meristem mutations in those. However, every make is different.
Do you know which NL lines without haze have this trait or links? I am curious how it presents or compares in frequency.
Right now it looks like only around 1% of TH Posi from what @StickyBandit found
My current hypothesis is that these are traits that can happen in various different lines, but relatively rare outside off the progeny coming from 5haze.
It seems to be a trait that can compound when the alelles are on both sides
