The Netpot Carbon Filter

PS thanks for bringing this back to my attention... After looking at this filter with a fresh set of eyes and some new found knowledge gained from building my latest box I think I've got a way to really make these filters sing.

Rubbermaid ghetto filter coming atcha!

Yea it restricted the flow of my 4" canfan substantially as well. Just not enough surface area. I think by creating a box with a few of these filters you could reduce the static pressure.

i agree, a large air collector box with several of these would work.

i just built the collector box and layered the cut out bottom of it with an inch or inch and half of carbon. the box i made is effective and does not restrict air flow.

Nice! Get some pics up and let me see this beast! What are you using as a prefilter on it?

lol, my shit is so ghetto i didn't even take pics when building it.

maybe i should have.

it's already created and installed. a pic would just look like a cardboard box with an aluminum dryer hose run into it.

basically here is what i did.

i had some old A/C ceiling vents with fixed louvers on it. the back side had a screen mesh but not super fine. it looked like this one.

i also had some old cardboard boxes sitting around. i took one and used packing tape and foil tape to seal it up good on one side that opens.

i then took some panty hose and put two layers around my vent. i cut away the cardboard on what would be my bottom of the box and placed the vent over the opening. i made sure to leave at least one inch of cardboard around the edges so that i could tape down the vent and ensure it was sealed.

once the vent was in the box, i taped up and sealed the last open side of the cardboard box.

next i cut a 4 inch circle on the opposite side of the vent and reached inside and finished taping up the last side of the vent against the box.

once that was done, i have a sealed box with a vented bottom. into that 4 inch hole i poured 18 ozs of activated carbon which gave me a layer 1 to 1.5 inches. next i took my aluminum dryer hose which came out of my grow chamber and taped it down to the opening in the box.

the fan didn't bog down at all. :woohoo:

the opening is approximately 7" x 14" or roughly 100 square inches. air flow is fine and the sweet, sweet smell of the northern lights is gone.

i love the smell, but others would not, lol !!!

anyway, i hope this makes sense. feel free to ask questions if you don't understand.

i wish i would have taken pics now. but it's so ghetto i didn't figure anyone would be interested.

ghetto, but effective :tiphat:

Your "old A/C ceiling vent" looks to be a 16"x8" soffit vent available in the roofing section at home depot for about $3.

zactly !!!

i forgot what they were called.

but home depot is correct !!!

the price i don't remember, but they can be had all day long for cheap...
