I made one years ago and it still works great! just need to change out the carbon/kitty litter crystal mix every 4-6 mo. to keep in top performance. Costs are minimal its like $20 for carbon every time i change and the 1 tub of kitty crystals will last at least 3-4 changes so over a year at a 1:3 ratio kitty:carbon

Mine is 6" in diameter and a little under 2' long basically extends from my fan intake to the edge of my cab. You could make it 8" in diamerter just as easily for extra filter power as well.

here is an IC mag link to the model i used to make mine.
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=29402

I made the same scrubber and I agree it works well. If I had it to do all over again I would probably just buy one. I've got my scrubber up in an attic crawlspace. Crawling through the insulation and hauling out the scrubber to replace the charcoal is a nasty job. I suspect that the that the Can filters use more carbon and last longer than the homemade ones. If you have a filter location that is easy to access I would definitely recommend making your own.

Alrighty guys,

I have had my C-24 for a little over 2 months now and I have done a lot of mods to it over that time. I have used it for vegging my clones and mothers since i got it two months ago.

Most recently though I had to cut back on my electrical use. I was using a 250watt hps in there, but had to switch it out for my configuration of 20watt flouro tubes.. Here take a look tell me what you think. Total of 140 flouro watts..

I did the lighting on two different levels so that i could adjust them to the size of the plants on a day to day basis.

Also installed can 9000 carbon filter with my modded stanley blower..

Well thats what I did to mod up my cab hope you guys like it. Peace.

Dont worry about the CFM's because your going to want to put a speed controller on the fan if you get a 6" Vortex and it should be close to the rated CFM's of the Can 33 after the speed adjustment.

The Can 33 is 13"tall w/ a 12" diameter. Theyre pretty big and they weigh around 30 pounds but work awesome in eliminating all odors.

btw what is your budget dmitexxi? You may want to do some DIY shit because buying everything can get expensive.

Thanks stealth.. Is a speed adjuster included in the fan or is it an additional component.

BTW my budget for this project is $1000 is that possible?

$500 for my setup. Maybe you don't need to DIY carbon filter with that kind of scratch. You would have a hard time spending all of your budget so yes, $1000 is more than enough.

The speed adjuster is bought separately from the fan, the one i have is called the "Speedster" and costs 25 bucks and worth every penny.

$1000 is a good budget and you should have enough to be able to buy all the gear you need with that. I forgot how much all my stuff costs but I know that for both cabs it cost me alot less than $2000 for sure, so $1000 should be more than enough for one cab.

I think you should have enough info by now to know what to do, so go out there and HANDLE IT! good luck :joint:

Vortex fans come with an optional plug in speed controller I think it costs about the same as StealthFarmers. Good fan too.

hey guys. im new to the whole grow thing and have been looking and reading alot for the past month to try and decide what is best for my situation. i have a few questions as these cabinets look like a great diy way to make one. the first thing i am confused about is the ventilation. i plan on getting a cool tube with 400w hps, but how do i set up the tubes and carbon filter? do i run all that inline with the fan on one end and then just the opening at the other? also for ventilation, do i just need to setup a fan sucking air out?
also is does anyone have a guide to build a nice cab
thanks jake

La-jake, Don't know how big your box is so there's no way to tell how much heat you'll have to worry about.

I'd start with intakes 1 1/2 to 2 times the size of your exhaust. Attach your filter to the tube and the tube to the exhaust fan. If that doesn't cool the cab enough, give the tube its own private line. In - thru the tube - and out. The cab itself still needs venting with the filter attached to the exhaust fan.

Just got mine!!! Im thinking 2" pvc for passive intake?? I know I should use dark room vents but then I gotta cut big sqare holes in the cab right??

I used a strain relief to make a lightproof cord hole after I took this pic. Ill be needing some help here tho guys lemme know what I should do about housing the fan/ballast on top of the cab??

My advice: don't do the 2" PVC intakes. Get a 8"x8" darkroom vent. You need a hell of a lot of 2" holes to give you the intake area of just one 8"x8" vent.

I'm not sure I understand the question about the ballast placement.

Thanks for the response and the advice. Yeah I know I should do the darkroom vents but how do you do that, you have to cut big square holes in the cab right?? not sure exactly how to do that, jig saw??

Ur saying I would need a bunch of 2" pvc intakes to get enough air in, right???

I want to get this done by the end of the weekend, I just wanna know exactly what Im going to do before I make any cuts, for obvious reasons. thanks again for gettin back at me any more help on the vents would be GREATLY appreciated.

As far as the ballast placement, the thing is Im thinking Ill have the ballast and the fan (big fan, actually a dual fan with two seperate high cfm squirrel fans attatched together, one which Ill be using for the tube ventilation and one for the room) on top of the cab, and I want to build some sort of concealment box, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, I saw someone with a rubbermaid on top but not sure if this will work. THanks agian man

jig saw will work good to cut holes for the intake and exhaust. darkroom vents are the way to go, try to avoid the 2 in pvc. depending on the cfm of the fan you are using you might want 2 of these darkroom vents to make sure you are getting enough air flow. the more air flow you have, the more fresh air for the plants and lower temps in the cab.

if you dont have enough room inside the cab for the fan, a cardboard box, rubbermaid or whatever keeps the equipment out of site will work. stealth is good.

Thanks for the tips man. I found some circular dark room vents have you heard of these??

http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Midget-L...2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1199769031&sr=8-2

maybe a 3 pack of them??

Finally found a way to elbow off my tube and make it fit. I wanted to fit an isolated intake on the other end of the tube to suck air from outside the cab thru the tube, but I cant really make it fit. So I guess Ill have to see how temps get and if I have to fix it I will. I would also have sucked air from the other side of the tube, (closer to the bulb), but it would be hard to fit the cord through the rubber fitting if you know what I mean. SO well see if this works. If anyone thinks it wont straight off let me know.

Just BARELY fits

ANd heres the venting I plan on using, 4" flex up through the cab and then to a 6" flange attatched to a HIGH cfm fan. this fan is like a jetpack I have a dimmer attatched to it AND a thermostat controller I want to use. the fan is a DUAL so it has two fans I want to use the other side to vent the room.

Lemme know

I agree with pinecone and mountain high. To figure the surface area of one of those 4 inch louvers, the formula is pie x radius squared. Or 2 x 2 x 3.14 = 12.56 square inches. Times that by 3 louvers and you have 37.68 square inches of darkroom louver intake.

One 8 inch louver has a square area of 64 inches. Put a couple in and you can do the math. Don't forget the louvers restrict the airflow some so the more intake the better. You don't want to stress your fan, or your plants out.

And yes a jigsaw and a drill works well. Just drill a couple holes big enough to get the cut started. Look on ebay, they're quite affordable.

GOOD LOOKIN GUYS, yeah just talk to me like a 2 yr old thats the best way for me to get it lol.
I was about to order those 4 inch vents but I checked out the thread first. Didnt know y'all meant not to use the 4" joints. I didnt realize the math involved. So cool Ill go with the 8 inch ones and get 2 of them. SOund like a plan?? DOES anyone know a local store that sells darkroom vents?? Im in LA so if theres any American chain that sells them I should be able to find them, yeah. LOL I dont want to wait for them in the mail.

{EDIT} just realized that 2 yr old comment mighta seemed sarcastic I was serious Im a stoner lol and FOR REAL the best way for me to get shit is for it to be broken down like that to me I DO appreciate it Im no dick!! k peace
Thanks again y'all ICMAG is the shit!!

Havent gotten the intakes yet, but Ive been doing hella shit to the cab.

Heres some pics.

Still got a bunch of lightproofing and other shit to do to do but u can see the method is working. Any questions ask. the 2"pvc is for a lightproof cord shoot, to put the thermostat sensor and co2 tube through, or whatever other cords I need.

holla. Intakes on the way.

Good stuff gonejah! I like the rubbermaid exhaust thing on top, and the CO2... sweet :joint:

Looks like you got a C13 cab, this is the first cab Ive seen with a CO2 system. Have you tried the CO2 in the cab b4 or is this going to be your first run w/ it?
