A long overdue smoke report on a strain I had great expectations for.
Took my time, let it cure for a good 8 weeks. Which was a good idea, cure changed things a lot.

Strain: California Orange

Breeder: Nirvana

Grow Environment: Micro setup with 78w of cfl's. Link to grow log: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=4837090

Soil/Nutes: 2 gallon pot with MG Organic Garden soil. Bone meal(6-9-0) and dolomite added. Molasses/bone meal tea used for feeding.

Yield: So so, not a large yield, about a 2/3 oz. But micro growers are used to smaller grows. Did not yield as well as some other strains I've grown in same setup.

Appearance: Very much an indica looking plant. Finished at around 24 inches tall. Superbly resinous buds with a nice light green color. Easily the prettiest buds I've grown. 9/10

Smell: Smelled of skunk during veg. Bit of a stinker. Interestingly, the smell went down during flower.
It took a good time curing to get the proper odor, and it was citrus, just not the citrus I was expecting.
Grapefruit, and a very nice grapefruit. I'd call it a sweet pink grapefruit. Never smelled better(yet). 10/10

Taste: Here is where the cure really made the difference. After 2 weeks of curing, it was not a good flavor. Not bad, but certainly nothing to brag about. But give it that extra time and the grapefruit odor worked its way into the taste. Not an intense flavor, but no complaints. 8/10

High: I mentioned I had great expectations. I have anxiety issues, and this strain was probably my most researched strain I've grown. My thanks to those who have posted. Don't want to omit anyone, so just a shout out to all who have posted on the Cali-O. And the results were dead on with other experiences posted. It is not the strongest strain. But it is very definitely worth a try for anxiety sufferers. A gentle lift, and a nice feeling. It is exactly as described, an Indica plant that feels much more like a sativa. Not a racy sativa, but quite usable for the daytime. I'll call it a 9/10 for anxiety issues. Maybe not so much for rec users, but worth a try if you have spare space. Sadly, strain has been discontinued by Nirvana, but the genetics seem to be available else where.

Overall: A good choice if you want a compact Indica that gives something other than the usual Indica knock down.

Thanks for documenting the report igrowone. Going off your description, it sounds like your cali-o was from Nirvana's changed up version. The original cali-o I grew from them was more of a 50/50 blend in appearance that leaned more to the sati side. The changed up version didn't have the trademark orange candy taste, but it was still some great daytime smoke.

I'm a bud porn whore... any shots of the finished product??

i will post the best pics i can, just gotta do some battery charging, later tonight i hope
been musing over the thoughts on the change in nirvana's cali-o(bows head in respectful silence for a deceased strain)
my guess(just a guess) is it was a change in breeder, probably the prior breeder moved on, and cali-o having well distributed genetics(at one time) it was not too hard for someone else's version to take up the slack
nirvana has the rep for breeder changes, but i have no inside knowledge

Nice report, Nirvanas Cali-O was the first pack of seeds I bought and it's a shame that it was discontinued.

I bought the pack looking for the Cali-O of old that festivus describes, and at first was kind of disappointed at the more indica lean of the plants I grew... a bit of research revealed to me that the strain had undergone a pretty drastic change before I bought my pack.

But, my disappointment soon lifted when I harvested for the first time, not what I was after but still a lovely smoke in its own right... so much so that I still have the keeper mum around and she still ranks high among my more recent strains, and will be getting fairly regular runs for some time!

you nailed my experience dead on
i looked at them big indica leaves, and feared(secretly) i was wasting my time
so that's high praise since it sounds like you've got a pretty good selection of genetics
and i do have to get a good bud pic here, i did snap a few and they turned out bad, gotta try a macro shot soon

When did the Cali-O change? I have had friends describe it to me from Nirvanas, but theirs was a few yrs back, 2003 (ish). Sounds like a nice daytime smoke

i believe the date mentioned may have been around 2006/2007, got my seeds in 2007
and it sounds different from some of the older experiences
