After countless trips to amsterdam (I <3 amsterdam) throughout the years me and one of my most frequent travel buddies decided to go all out on the spring trip to holland this year. we're gonna try and make our way around the country by bicycle.... maybe by tandembike, might be abit optimistic considering our unsportsmanlike physique, and lack of balance. i reccon we'll end up buying a coupple of "omafiest", - good oldfashion grandma'bikes. dutch style! what better way to see holland then by bike? am i right?

anyway about our trip, its a 3 week trip starting 8th of may ending 29th.
we're hoping to make our way up along the coast of noord-holland from zandvoort, eventually crossing the 30km long afsluitsdijk and from there making our way to groeningen. ill make this clear here and now.. we're not planning on doing any hard biking on this trip, infact im planning on rolling about my merry ways, half-drunk, half-baked with my "hup holland"-caps and a big dorky smile across my face. accomodations along the way will be beach bungalows, my old faithful tent and the odd hotel room. we're outdoorsy people, and we hope to get closer on the locals crashing at camping sites rather then hotels.

ill try and update this thread with info concerning coffee shops, growshops, strains and local specialities plus anyting interresting we get to see along the way.

ETA: 6 days and counting.. :woohoo: .. cyall around

Shit yeah!!! Sounds like an absolute blast!!
Always wanted to go there, and if I went, I would want to camp. I love sleeping in a tent, especially someplace new.

Have a great time.

hey guys, yeah holland and amsterdam is definately on the top ten must-go places! i have loads of good experiences from my many trips to amsterdam, believe it or not i have no bad ones. havent seen one violent episode, and ive been there over 10 times. what strikes me the most every time im there is how quiet and placid the streets are at night time. no traffic noice, sirens or other disturbances compared to other citys the same size. theres just such a chill atmosphere everywhere, from the second i set my feet there i felt right at home. and nomatter how long i stay i never get tired of the place, i feel like crying when its time to go home.

this time tho, i wanna see more of the country, and i wanna try some coffee shops outside amsterdam. ive been reccomended to head towards the coast. holland has miles and miles of beaches all along the coastline.. we'll start at zandvoort which is a beach resort about 7km outside of haarlem, heading north along the beach.

and guys... waste no time in getting there!!! start saving NOW!! trust me you wont be disappointed :)

Daisy Jane .... you missed out a few luckies.... I think it goes.... "you lucky lucky lucky lucky bastard".... I dont know need to check some young ones eps

not a bad idea....I have been preparing to do some multi day rides out in the bush here and then maybe a 2 week 400 mile trek. So far am still training around the city but I can tell you after 2 hours and 30Km's solid, your backside gets a bit on the sore side.... so may sure your seats a comfortable one. You get fit quick doing it though so thats a good thing... and of course there's always refreshments close to hand in A'dam.

awesome idea... I have seen these tour de france rides you can go on... so its like a tour of the tour... you follow along and ride some segments of the race. Perhaps you will be up for a climb up the pyranese after 3 weeks in the Netherlands

hey treb :)

thanks for popping in on my thread .. im have loads of experience trekking, beiing that im from northern (arctic) norway, im no stranger to mountains. since i was a little kid ive been more interrested in the great backcountry then any city. u know fishing and hunting and stuff. i have hundreds of nights tenting summer and winter under my belt, in the high arctic.

as far as this trip is concerned its the fact that holland is completely flat that tickles my curiousity, it boggles my mind that any land can be that flat, since im not used to seeing this type of landscape. well that and all the good smoke they got in holland. as far as i know, there is no need to go to amsterdam in order to get smoke. coffee shops are all over the country, in just about every town, prices are supposed to be cheaper too outside amsterdam. thats partly what this thread is about, im planning on updating it with names and locations of the coffee shops and grow shops we find along the way. be sure to check this thread out in a week or two for updated info.. until then, take care
