The Russians are looking good, the Finns too. Some results so far:

Russia - Denmark: 9-1

Finland - Ukraine: 5-0

USA - Austria: 6-2

Czech Rep - White Russia: 8-2

Sweden - Italy: 7-1

The favorites are going strong. Canada didn't impress against Germany, a 3-2 win and no control over the game, the Germans were inventive. They're Canadians though, with a few tricks up their sleeve.

When I was a young kid and started watching icehockey, Denmark was a C-nation - I remember we went down in the D-group *lol*

I´m proud we´re in the A-group now. Playing with all the big nations. Even if thet kick our ass.
Think we´ll make good figths later :dueling:

I think Tre Kronor will have difficulties nailing the Finns this time around Johnny Allen. Can't always win...

I don't think the Finns' offense is something to be very frightened about.

The other areas are well covered. No big names, but the system works. W is a very defensive minded coach.

My friend is playing in this thing.

edit: He probably doesn't get much playing time because he is fresh out of college hockey. (Erik Johnson, #1 overall draft pick last year)

Normally I'm totally into the world championships and watch all Canada's games, but seeing how alot of our better players are not there/still playing (like my team :D) I haven't been as dedicated a follower this year. Still hope we do well and as Puddy says "Gotta support the team" so Go Canada go!

Has anyone head about this ridicoulsleness? The Canadian parliament has ordered Team Canada hockey officials to speak to a "commitee" about why they chose Shane Doan as Team Canada's captain and whether that was an appropriate choice. The issue is that 14 months ago during a game, a ref "thought" he heard Doan utter a racist remark about French Candians. The NHL did an investigation and couldn't find any wrong doing. In essence, case closed. Now, over a year later the government has brought it back to life. Since when does government decide hockey affairs?? Since when does the NHL have to answer or explain anything to the government?? Is our political environment so boring right now this is what politicians are worrying about? Some people are over stepping their boundaries, imo. I mean, the NHL did it's job, it looked into the allegations, no other player complained. It was case closed more than a year ago! Complete nonsense. Sorry to rant but I really am in disbelief :fsu:
