the hydrogen car

fucking fuel companies. those fucking car companies. gas stations and crooked politicians. I heard by a "wise" old man that all those places i told to fuck off pay money to keep the hydrogen car underwraps.

fuck that man. when i make it big time im going to pay whoever the fuck i need to to get a hydrogen car company rollin.

I'd drive it, they need to double as a small nuclear device. the ultimate in luxury, the 7-series HB, yes folks thats the hydrogen bomb edition.

Hydrogen cars have been around for a little while. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't there buses in the UK that are hydrogen powered?? I believe there are.

Hydrogen Cells aren't so great...they are a scam by the energy industry.

It takes so much fucking energy to make a fuel cell that in the long run there is very little impact on greenhouse gas emissions. In other words--big oil still gets paid off.

All a hydrogen cell is in simple terms is a type of battery. It doesn't solve any problems electric cars can. Since there is no free floating hydrogen in the atmosphere they have to burn coal or use nuclear energy to produce the hydrogen.

Arnold Schwarzennegger had a fuel cell hummer custom made for him. He drove it to a campaign rally and gave a speech about global warming afterwards he drove home in a gas powered hummer.

who killed the elec car???

who killed the elec car???

"Hydrogen cars have been around for a little while"

even generators exist on the market...coleman makes one...

"It takes so much fucking energy to make a fuel cell "

the energy used to make a fuel cell will be offset by the savings..this should be obvious..fuel cells have very few working parts...think it requires platinum in the catalyst...which could increase expense...

battery powered cells as of TODAY get around a theoretical 200 mpg...versus a top engine--maybe 40 mpg...this will only improve...current problem is recharge speed....you can only go 600 miles before you need a 12 hour charge...hydrogen helps this...

hydrogen cells will lead to far more efficiency over the batteres of today and namely reduce the cost of the batteries...the current barrier with E or hydro-E cars..

"Since there is no free floating hydrogen in the atmosphere they have to burn coal or use nuclear energy to produce the hydrogen"

yes and no...hydrogen is typ bound by heavy bonds..use electrolysis to break water bonds...needs more E than inturn is created...but this is changing due to synergy...eg producing hydrogen under pressure reduces cost..so does bouyancy...underwater mfg plants..

furthermore...theres hydroelectric...and breakthroughs in solar cells can yield better efficiency with the hydro cell being used as a highly efficient battery..its been stated that death valley full of solar cells would run the entire US economy..

if the price of gas shot up more as IT SHOULD (10 dollar gallons in US and China)..tech would correct it..prices would be much cheaper in the long-run....fuck gas..this aint 1920 no more...

^^I'm not pro gas by any means...

I'm just saying that there is a reason why hydrogen is being pimped more than other alternatives...and that they aren't as green as they are supposed to be.

Did You know Opel made an all-electric version of the Kadette in 1969?
GM would'nt allow them to be sold to US/Canadian markets though.

i hope this gets rolling soon man...
i have shares in a fuel cell manufacturer and the stock is kinda 'blah'...very slowly rising..
more of a long-term investment was my initial thought when buying the stock, and things are goin OK.
but if shit gets off the ground here, and hydrogen comes into play in a big way, ill be a very happy camper!

i vote yay to fuel cell vehicles! why the fuck not?! :canabis:

Yeah, why not a hydrogen fuel-cell generator? (puts power companies out or buisness?)

Guineapig is throwin' away the exercise wheel and shifting to HYDROGEN baby!!!!!!

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

"I'm just saying that there is a reason why hydrogen is being pimped more than other alternatives..."

give us the juice..i hate guessing....why do you say the above...??

"and that they aren't as green as they are supposed to be."

the question is where does the hydrogen come from...because if the cell is paired with a green source de hydrogen...well as green as you can get...suppose a solar/hydroelectric electrolysis source for "gas" and the rest of the elec direct to your house...

essentially we have the E-car..we just need to up the battery cap..and do away with coal burning source...gasoline for example can be turned to hydrogen without any combustion via a "reformer"...

"i have shares in a fuel cell manufacturer and the stock is kinda 'blah'...very slowly rising.."

dunno what to say...

Problems with hydrogen:

1. A hydrogen molecule is a single hydrogen atom, and a hydrogen atom is the smallest possible atom. It leaks easily.
2. It corrodes rubber. In time, it leaks.
3. It makes metal brittle. Engine blocks crack.
4. It burns hotter than other fuels. Unless it is pure oxygen going into the carborator, an internal combustion engine would produce more noxides (oxides of nitrogen, like nitric acid).
5. There is not enough platinum on the planet to switch our fleet of vehicles over to fuel cells.

I am sure the list is longer than this.

P.S. Platinum is more secure than stock in any one fuel cell company.

I don't see how an electric car would solve anything, we still burn fuel at the local power plants for the most part.

Tainted we're now getting to the core of what's causing us to disagree in this discussion. Saying that $10/ gallon gas will force the free market to find green solutions is what all of the die hard capitalists say. What makes you think that they'll use solar and hydroelectric technologies to manufacture the hydrogen when we already have plenty of cheap coal and nuclear power? To say that the generation of hydrogen could be paired with green technology sounds hopeful and far fetched. Did you know that on the average it takes 30 years for new technologies of this sort to come online after they've been developed and this is a technology that doesn't even come close to being practical yet? Fuel cells and the free market solving all woes is just what they tell you to keep you consuming until the very end.

I'm actually starting get annoyed with the whole green technology crowd because there's so little mention of or desire to change lifestyle to reduce consumption. Its all about what technology will allow me to keep my house at 50 degrees during the summer and 80 in the winter or carry my fat ass in the biggest suv street legal. You go to the grocery store and look around. 90% of the food they sell is preprepared and from ingredients from all over the world and there's an extremely wasteful use of packaging. Nothings changing its all to help yuppies keep act like jerks and have a clear conscience.
